Lizzie is going through on of her hyper stages again. We were doing really well with the sit and stay since we started clicker training but now she refuses to sit....that is if I can get her to sit! She seems to want to pay attention to EVERYTHING except what I want her to learn. She will be distracted...

Chewing -- what to give her?
Posted to:
Nutrition & Exercise
Dweezil is about 8 months old now, Cairn/Cocker mix. I stopped giving her bully sticks because she devoured them within three days (the 12 inch ones ... and even when I would take them away during the day while I'm gone) ... and her nylabones, she loves them, but doesn't seem as satisfied as...

Marley and Me

Has anyone read this book? I just finished it last week and wanted to see what other people thought. I just loved the way the author wrote the story. It really made me feel emotions for the family and for Marley. I think a lot of people would be able to relate to this family and the mistakes you make...

Unusual crying at night

Hi All, Gizmo (my 1 yr old bruss griff dog) has been crate trained - no problem! He has been sleeping in the crate (in our bedroom) for 6 or 7 months. He is totally potty trained. About a month or so ago, a week of intense rain/lightning storms happened and he was so scared that I let him sleep...

Age of dogs - sad realization
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
I was going thru some paperwork on our dogs this weekend and realized that my older dog is going to be 11 this Nov. My husband had her before I came along and we both thought she was going to be 10 but based on her spay paperwork, she'll be 11. She's a Shar Pei/Lab mix and Shar Peis generally...

Nutritional Balance; Small vs. Large Companies
Posted to:
Nutrition & Exercise
Like many, if not most of you, I feed a holistic brand of dog food. I have been feeding it for about16 months and Jessie is doing very well; better than she did on Eukanuba or Nutro Natural Choice. In spite of this I sometimes wonder if the smaller companies such as Innova, Canidae, Eagle Pack, Natural...

how old were you when you started really getting into dogs?
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
so yeah basically like the topic says: what age were you when that "turning point" came and you were into dogs i.e. researching nutrition, training, breeds, accumulating canines, etc. (i know some may have been into dogs from the get go!)

Large Breed Puppy Foods

I was pleasantly surprised to see the general unanimity on feeding a large breed puppy formula to large breed puppies. Several very knowledgeable and experienced breeders on this board have had success in other ways but unless you know what you are doing go with what the Great Dane Lady recommends. You...

I'm having some issues with my 5 month old Silky Terrier Banditt. For the most part potty training is coming along pretty well, although a while back I caught him hiking his leg in the house. On the kitchen curtain, kitchen trash can, chairs, sofa. At first I figured he was marking his territory...

Nail clipping woes

When I trim Rupert's nails, he acts like it hurts. He pulls away, and gives me that pleading "please don't do this to me" look. [ ] His paw pads also get clammy. He doesn't yelp, but then again, he once ran smack into a wall in the dark, and just let out a, "Oof." [8|...
