She wont stay still long enough to train!

Lizzie is going through on of her hyper stages again. We were doing really well with the sit and stay since we started clicker training but now she refuses to sit....that is if I can get her to sit!

She seems to want to pay attention to EVERYTHING except what I want her to learn. She will be distracted even if we are alone with no distractions. She doesnt want to sit anymore, I try putting the treat over head and back so she will sit but she just back away, even if I put her by the wall she will move back and refuse to sit. I have had to physically sit her down so she learns what sit is and I dont have to feel like a parrot constantly repeating because I know its not good to keep repeating the same thing over and over.

She is just too active right now, what can I do to help her focus and to start sitting again! She really should be sitting, staying and laying down at this point but she has gotten really unruly. [>:]

Any chance for a long walk/playtime before the training sessions?

don't try so hard, and don't make up "she should be... by now" expectations, you'll get mad and your pup will stop wanting to do anything for you. Ask for a sit before supper or before throwing her toy, if no sit, say too bad and walk away for a few minutes. If she's really hyper, maybe try working more active behaviors-- fetch, recalls, heeling, fun tricks, instead of boring stationary exercises.

My question is, how are you clicker training.  Are you waiting for her to offer you behaviors, or are you telling her to do something and then clicking her when she does?

If you're doing the latter, at present you're clicker training incorrectly.

If she is resisting your efforts, then what you need to do is put her in the position you want her in, praise her like crazy, and then the training session is OVER.  You DO NOT continue, otherwise everything will be a fight

Sally used to get like this sometimes.  I'd just try to get more activity into her day.

Training should be fun for the dog.  I think you should tire her oout a bit before training.  Training doesn't happen overnight.  It took a full two years to get my Rottie to do everything I asked him to do and do it EVERYTIME.
