Age of dogs - sad realization

I was going thru some paperwork on our dogs this weekend and realized that my older dog is going to be 11 this Nov. My husband had her before I came along and we both thought she was going to be 10 but based on her spay paperwork, she'll be 11. She's a Shar Pei/Lab mix and Shar Peis generally only live to 10, so hopefully her lab genes will carry her much longer. Sassy is a rescue but the vet we took her to first guessed her age at 2, but I saw on the spay paperwork, the vet guesstimated 3. Either way, that was in July of 2001, so she's either about 7 or 8 and I always think of her as so much younger than that. It just made me realize that neither dog is a young pup anymore and I only have a few more years left with at least one of them [>:].

Oh Cathy, I look at my little Kota's face and see all the white hairs creeping up around his muzzle. He turned 7 this year. And Shadow, she's grey around her muzzle too. It's so sad to think about so don't!! lol....

Give your puppers some extra scratches for me. I'm 13 hours away from mine till Saturday and I miss them!

It is a sad relization, you remember them as being so young. My retriever cross is 10 now, he can't get up on the couch by himself anymore without my help =(

I don't have any old dogs....but as far as white hairs on the muzzle, Cassidy has had white creeping under her chin and some white hairs on her face, and she's only 3! [:-] lol

But I am sorry for you [

] It would be so sad to think that my dogs are getting old!

Yep Stephanie - your dogs are still young pups. Enjoy every minute cause they really are with us such a short time. Mine still both act like puppies, so it's hard to imagine they won't be around forever [

My parents' Dobe is 10 or 11 (rescue, exact DOB unknown.) We're lucky to get 12 years out of our breed, lately. I feel sorry for the breeds who generally have less than that to hope for.

Dingo turns 6 in December and its very sad too see that hes not as quick as he used to be or that he lays down and vets up slow.

Teenie was guesstimated to be 7-9 years old, but towards the older end of that, when I got her last September.

Thankfully, with her breed, as long as her back doesn't go out, she could live another 7-9.

Legend is 10, but luckily he's not showing any signs. He's always been a lazy dog though[
