    Unusual crying at night

    Hi All,

Gizmo (my 1 yr old bruss griff dog) has been crate trained - no problem! He has been sleeping in the crate (in our bedroom) for 6 or 7 months. He is totally potty trained.

About a month or so ago, a week of intense rain/lightning storms happened and he was so scared that I let him sleep on our bed. Ever since, he will only sleep on our bed, not in his crate.

At night, I will put him in his crate when he is sleepy and he will sleep maybe an hour. Then he wakes up and howls/whines/cries for hours, upon hours. I've taken him out and he doesn't need to potty - he just wants up on our bed to sleep. Last night I had it, and I let him cry and cry. He cried from midnight to past 7AM!! I need sleep!

Am I just stuck now with him on our bed? Or is this like a "re-training" him with the crate, where it will take a few days of ignoring him?

    Thanks!

Im not a good person to answer you because I would just let him on the bed lol.

But really I think you should give it a few days of ignoring him.  ou will lose sleep... but if you want him to stop I dont know much else you could do.  Maybe tire him out with a good walk right before bedtime and that might help too.

I would move the crate out of the bedroom, thats what I did with my puppy and the crying stopped. She was only whinnig because she knew we were there and wanted to be with us. Now she only cries or barks if she has to go to the bathroom, and I actually get to sleep through the night.
