Bo's encounter with a cat
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
A couple of days ago while we were out in the yard there was a neighbor cat prowling around. Bo isn't really prey driven but he was curious and he went up and tried to sniff it. The cat batted at him and Bo backed up so I thought there was no more problems there. Yesterday, Bo's face started...

Garlic & Raw Egg ok for Dogs?
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
I started my dog on a raw diet recently. This is what I am feeding: Ground beef/deer/or turkey, brown rice, pureed carrots, kelp flakes(just a pinch), salmon oil, bone meal, raw egg, garlic(about 1 clove), plain yogurt. When I started considering this diet, I read in several places that raw egg and...

Homecooking question- has anyone used amaranth?
Posted to:
Nutrition & Exercise
I was thinking about using a grain/seed called amaranth when I homecook to replace the brown rice I am using now. It is supposed to be high in protein. Has anyone tried this? One more question, I was thinking about pureeing batches of veggies in larger quantities (about a week's worth) would it...

How am I supposed to catch these animals?
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
Well, today we went to look at yet another property to move to. This one's 160 acres, mobile home, a creek flowing through it, barn, several other out buildings... but the one thing that was included really shocked me: "1 llama and three sheep - if you can catch them". I kid you not, the...

Skin Problem on almost 2yo dobie
Posted to:
Health & Grooming
Deoji started showing signs of a skin issue about a month ago. Then it was about 1/2 as bad as it is now (in the pics below). Investigating his environment, I thought it could be his crate bed which hubby had washed with a fair bit of bleach this last time. Upon removing it, he started to improve. That...

Play Biting
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
How did you discourage your puppy not to nip while playing? I've been working with Harley on it for the month that I've had her and she is getting better. But just now my BF was out in the yard playing with her and he had her toy in his hand and she nipped him on the leg. He got mad and told...

Homecooking-Organ Meat Question
Posted to:
Nutrition & Exercise
I notice these homecooked sites say organ meat should be about 5% or so of the diet. But, for example, my NB fish does not include any type of organ meat. And, I know there are other kibble that also don't include it. So, is it necessary in homecooked?

Yes! Taught "paw"
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
I taught Bailey "paw" tonight in about 10 minutes! I am so proud of her! I was C/T for any time she hit my hand with her paw.. The only problem is she tries to grab onto my arm with her mouth while she is pawing at me... It is an excited thing, not aggressive... Any suggestions?

Calcium, not enough in foods?
Posted to:
Nutrition & Exercise
I am going to buy Calcium Citrate, but I was wondering why cottage cheese, yogurt, Salmon etc. is not enough calcium. Trudy is so small, I have heard some people say enough calcium is in the right foods, and some say it has to be measureed perfectly.
