    There goes the theory that using grain free canned food is safe;

    Ingredients: Ground Beaver and Water Sufficient for Processing

    Oh no [:o] Why would they even add to this type of product - it didn't even need anything to be added to begin with.

    My guess would be...if they could cut down on the amount of actual beaver or turkey, add the rice protein concentrate to "up" the protein amount (by giving a false positive for protein amounts when tested), then that would save money on the amount of meat they actually had to use.

    This is the crappiest, scummiest, dirtiest, deceitful finding as of yet.

    It is,,,,,,,,,,,      but I wonder if any of us could really afford to feed our pets only canned meat,,,with 100% only meat.  I don't buy canned meats...I do buy Eagle canned just to have around to put on kibble once in a while,,,,,,,but I bet maybe twice a year,,,hardly worth doing.  But I know when I cook up meat for Bubby (which I do every week) and I put it in a container...it probably would only make about a large can after its cooked...and I add baby veggies or pumpkin to it.

    The page the link takes you to points out how American Nutrition cares so much about how your pet food is made. They cared so much they bought the cheapest ingredient they could find, which maximizes their profit and the companies they make it for maximize their profit, even if it is Blue Buffalo and Royal Canin, etc. who still get to tell you how they made this food themselves using only whole ingredients and freshly slaughtered whatever and sticking in only the top sirloin cut of the meat. And it's actually made from whatever can be bought cheapest. And it doesn't matter who the company is. Innova, Nutro, Purina, Natural Balance. It's called advertising, lying for profit. And maximizing profit.

    This is some of the motivation of Sandra, who has taken plenty of heat here, for not trusting completely what a company says, no matter what the brand name is. And, as it turns out, it really doesn't matter if Blue Buffalo uses one teaspoon less rice gluten for a recipe than Purina does. Both foods would still be tainted.

    OTOH, as frustrating as it is to read about these recalls, may they bring about good changes in the future.

    I think that will be the only good outcome out of this whole miserable siuation.

    Don't they have major pet laws over there? Like only one per household or something weird?

    Maybe they think we have too many.

    ETA..check this out... The China dog law varies from region to region. In Beijing, dogs are prohibited outside during the day, while the regulations are considerably looser in other parts of this huge country. In Beijing, you risk having your dog confiscated and euthanized if you do not keep it indoors during the day. Dogs are also prohibited from parks and grass 24/7 and you can not ride an elevator with your dog in Beijing. If a dog grows taller than knee-high, the it can be seized by the government and euthanized.

    Why do I picture the Chinese over in China laughing at the "stupid High and Mighty Americans???"

    Yes,,I agree with this and think about it all of the time.  We spend so much time trying to find the perfect food for our dog,,,and in the end with all of this, we find that companies are lying and at the very least if they are not lying,,,they just don't know what they are even putting in their own foods because they don't check what the company that they but from is putting in. And it doesn't matter if if the company is what we consider a good company or not!

    As far as Chinas dog attitudes about dogs...they are having a problem with rabies right now and are trying to handle it. And not in a very good way either, since I think I read that they do not do rabies vaccines.I believe that is what it is all about.
    I honestly don't think that it has anything to do with what they are putting in our dog food though. It seems to be more about money.

    A lot of us do. I've fed a lot of Evangers and By Nature 100% meats. In fact I bought two cases of By Nature 100% chicken a couple weeks ago. But both of them are made in Evangers canning factory, thankfully, which hasn't had anything recalled. In any case, after these "100% meat" recalls, I've ceased all canned dog food. Well, all commercial dog food period, for Cherokee. My sister's dog is still on Solid Gold Mmillennia.
