We're going to the NW mountains of NC this week and taking our dog with us - he's a very fit 11 mo old who loves the trails and water. Anything outside the norm that you need to be wary of? thanks

vita gravy
Posted to:
Nutrition & Exercise
What do you think of vita gravy for dogs. I was thinking of buying some and putting some on Jake's homecooked meals. He still has not been eating. He only eats his protein, no carbs or vegetables. I think it may be too dry and plain for him, so I was thinking of adding some gravy to flavor it up...

Raised bumps with black center
Posted to:
Health & Grooming
My beagle has small bumps with black dots in the center along his tummy area. When we called the vet they said it's allergy season and this could be a result of it. They advised we give him benadryl. We did, but im concerned since the bumps look like they are growing. This is my first dog and I don't...

Does this rescue seem a little fishy?
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
In general I think that Petfinder is great, and really helps rescue organizations and shelters to place dogs. BUT last night I was checking out dogs on Petfinder, and I happened to see this rescue. They seem to have only young puppies, and most are small breed. It just seemed a little odd to me because...

this may seem like a silly question..

But why can't the vets do vasectomies on dogs rather than castration? Is it just that much easier to lop them off(God that gives me a queezy feeling saying that)or is there another reason...?Excuse my stupidity on this..lol

How much does spaying cost where you live? I just made my appointment for Louise and was surprised at how expensive it is here ($300-500).

Looking for GSD Pup: Am or Germ?
Posted to:
Choosing A Dog
Hey all. I'm on a search for a GSD puppy, but I'm in a bit of a pickle. I want to show in conformation in AKC (primarily because I don't have the time for the SV ring right now). My problem is this. I'm told that the only way I'm going to win is with an American dog, but I don't...

Does anyone have any information about pet insurance? Is it worth it? Which one is reliable? I was thinking about buying it for my dog. Any suggestions/comments would be welcome.

Starting to crate 1 1/2 year old
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
Because we have had some major dominance / aggression issues with our 1 1/2 year old Male Yorkie-Poo, we are starting to Crate him. We bought his crate yesterday and, as it instructed, just let him get used to it. It said to not force him in it right away, but to gradually get him used to it over a couple...

We just got Calbee yesturday and Emily and I are very excited. Calbee is a 2 1/2 month Toy Poodle. Calbee sleeps in the crate and we're starting off with a peepad inside. He know how to use a peepad in the crate but not outside yet. Any idea of training him to use the peepad in the other room...

My vet's dog is 20 yrs old today so she threw a party for him and invited a couple of her dog's friends. When I got to the house with Romeo, he made a bee line for an older gentleman who immediately lit up when he saw him and called him "Bandit". It was the most tender "reunion"...
