Cost of Spaying

    Cost of Spaying

How much does spaying cost where you live?   I just made my appointment for Louise and was surprised at how expensive it is here ($300-500).

That does sound high, but you have to remember that a spay, unlike a neuter, requires abdominal surgery.  It's a much bigger deal than a neuter, which is basically "snip snip" and they're gone.

I just remember paying $25-50 to spay my cat, so I was a bit shocked.

If money isn't an issue, and you know and trust the vet, I would go ahead and pay it.  It isn't like you're going to have this expense every few months and you know your dog will be getting quality care AND pain management.  If money is an issue, you might contact your local shelter to see if they have a low cost spay program.

    Here, it's $175 for a bitch under 15 pounds. I was shocked.

Ten years ago, my mom payed $90 for a 30 pound bitch. Less than five years ago, I payed $140 for a 25 pound bitch....

I'm sure my next pet will cost even MORE to neuter.

I payed $120 to get Maddi spayed AND have her back dew claws removed...

$300-500 seems like an aweful lot... but maybe its just me.

Oh, I'm definitely going to go ahead and pay it.   I love my vet and he's right across the street from me, so it's not worth looking for someone else.

when I had Molly done this past February she weighed about 50 lbs. (probably closer to 45) and I also had her microchipped.
The chip was $50 and the total was $275...so $225 including the preanesthesia bloodwork which they charge $60 for. So $225 - $60 = what LOL $165

what i charged before i retired was no way near like the prices that have been quoted...but I think Inne's advice is the best.. If you trust your vet pay what ever he/she charges...The peace of mind is better than a cheap fee.

Roxie's going in to be spayed on 10 July.  The cost depends on her weight, of course.  If she's 49 pounds or less, it's $92.  Fifty pounds or more is $102.  She was 42.2 pounds the other day, so I'm probably looking at the $102 option.  LOL!

I just checked my states spay/neuter website.
    Female dog  $50
    Male            $40
    Female cat    $30
    Male Cat       $25
    Low income free
I'm not sure how much the regular vet would charge because my
    puppy came neutered.

It's a good program.  Euthanasia rates have dropped 39%.
I've had three cats spayed with no problems.  If anyone local would like more info the website is utahpets.org.

Where I live they have a program like that too. They give you a control number, you go and find a vet you like, pay $50 and the organzation pays the rest. [:)]

Or we have one through PETA called SNIPS mobile. It's $50 for males and $60 for females.
