    Pet Insurance

Does anyone have any information about pet insurance?  Is it worth it?  Which one is reliable?  I was thinking about buying it for my dog.  Any suggestions/comments would be welcome.

I had it for my dogs but it didn't cover most of Gizmo's surgery so I droped it. I like it but if your dog already has a pre-exsisting injury or condition before you buy insurance than it will not cover your dog. That was my problem. It's good if you start it with a puppy with no problems to beguin with.

Most vets don't work with the companies so the way it works is you pay the vet up front and the insurance reemburses you the cost minus the fee after you send them the recept.

I just got pet insurance. I hope it pays off.  I have a 15 week old pupy.  He had pneumonia before insurance and i had to wait til he was no longer taking meds before they would accept me.  Now if he gets it again, i basically have to dispute it.  I aleady got a letter from the vet saying he has made a full recovery.
For this first year i got the premium pkg cuz i still need to get him neutered and the rest of his boosters.  I plan to downgrade next year.

I don't have pet insurance and until the last year my girl has always been fairly healthy.  BUT my daughter who is a vet tech, just started working for Bainesfield which is a chain of vet clinic associated with all PetsMart stores.  They offer a $20 a month wellness program.  Don't have all the specifics yet but will post with them when I do.  I am seriously considering this program.  Beats the heck out of having to come up with a hundred or two each year for the annual, teethcleaning, etc.

I don't know anything about pet insurance, but here's my [sm=2cents.gif] on Banfield. When we first got Loki, we enrolled him in Banfield's Puppy Wellness Program. It was $100 sign up fee and $20/month for 1 year. We didn't pay anything extra for his vaccinations or for having him neutered. Office visits were free, which was great for us as first time dog parents. Anytime we were worried about something, we just brought him in and didn't pay anything unless they needed to run tests or give him medicine. With the wellness plan, any services (xrays, blood tests, prescriptions, etc) were 10% off.

Now that we have 2 dogs and are more experienced pet parents, we decided not to renew the Wellness plan. But it was very beneficial for us when Loki was a puppy.
