    taking my dog hiking

We're going to the NW mountains of NC this week and taking our dog with us - he's a very fit 11 mo old who loves the trails and water.
Anything outside the norm that you need to be wary of?
    thanks

sounds like fun. if he is used to hiking, i cant think of anything unusual in that area. i go mtn biking quite frequently in the areas around asheville and brevard. lots of beautiful scenery.

i would point out that ticks have been worse this year than in previous years, so watch out for them on you and your pup.

    have fun!

    yep....tick protection ..

also,if he has a back pack he could carry his water...i usually throw ice packs in mine and it keep the pups sides cool...HAVE FUN!

In regards to ticks, I got it from another iDogger that a few drops of rose geranium essential oil on a collar or backpack does the trick.  Works for you, too. [sm=happy.gif]

thanks to all - we're in Raleigh and we too are inundated with ticks this year so we're on the alert for that
Great idea about the ice packs in the backpack - plan was that he could carry his own water.
As a big strong 90lber I'm sure he can handle it
    thanks again all

Yeah, ticks have been bad here too.  I went out in a nearby feild/woodsy area with Sally for only 2 hours and found 4 ticks on ME--yet none on the dog--lol.
