My vet's dog is 20 yrs old today so she threw a party for him and invited a couple of her dog's friends.
When I got to the house with Romeo, he made a bee line for an older gentleman who immediately lit up when he saw him and called him "Bandit". It was the most tender "reunion" I have ever witnessed, Romeo was melting in this man's arms is hard to describe you had to have been there, and the man had tears in his eyes. This took my by surprise, I told him I had adopted "Romeo" from a local shelter 2 yrs ago. He asked me if Romeo had a 4 digit number branded on his left underarm, which he does! It turns out he was doing his practice in Brownsville, TX 13 yrs ago, when he found Bandit/Romeo, he was still a puppy did not even have his eyes completely opened!! long story short, he took him had him for a year, and let one his client have him. He left Brownsville and a few years later, he found out the gentleman had passed away, supposedly someone in the family was going to keep the dog and that was the last he heard of him.
Well fast forward 13 yrs, Bandit is now Romeo who I thought was between 6-8 according to the shelter, and my vet was saying about 10-11 yrs.
I have to say, I was feeling kind of jealous (feel bad about it) because Romeo never left this man's side, not even to go play with the other dogs! He was looking up at him so adoringly the whole time, and made himself comfortable on his lap. Not even when I went to pet another dog, did he move, and he cannot stand it when I

ay attention to anybody else but him!
He eventually made it to my side. The gentleman congratulated me for doing such a wonderful job with him, because he looks and acts like a young dog. He asked if he could keep in touch and if he could visit, I said ok.
I asked if he was sure, and he said: "there are dogs that come into your life and you never forget, no matter how brief the encounter. This is one those dogs."
So there I go, my Romeo is 13 yrs old. [
