About vets

I want to switch my dog's vet. There's nothing wrong with them-- she's only been a couple times but everything went fine-- however, this vet is too long of a drive. It's a half hour away and 40-45 minutes coming back due to a construction detour. Not only is this a hassle and waste of...

Just need to complain! (Make me feel better!)

Hi gang. As you guys know my husband and I recently (few days ago) got our dog from a local humane society. She is super, super sweet, and is generally adjusting very well. I'm just irritated right now thinking about the condition she is/was in. This dog was given up, apparently, because she...

Border Collie Puppies - Need advice
Posted to:
Choosing A Dog
We just adopted two border collie puppies, and have never had border collies before. We have two 6 year old black labs mixes, and two 2 and 1/2 year old dogs - we got them from a no-kill shelter as babies, and they said they were shepherd/collie mixes, but I saw a picture of English Shepherds online...

Nature's Variety Raw Instinct
Posted to:
Nutrition & Exercise
Odin has been itching since we brought him home (4 months). Our vet prescribed antihistamines, but nothing has worked. He said it's probably a food allergry and to try him on new food. I went to our local pet store and the owner told me about Nature's Variety Raw Instinct. It's only a little...

Pekingese and oil gland cysts
Posted to:
Health & Grooming
Hello. I own a 5 year old female cream Pekingese. She has been diagnosed with having oil gland cysts. I am wondering if this is a common ailment of the breed and whether these will keep coming back? Thank you. --Sara

Neighbors dog with bleeding skin.
Posted to:
Health & Grooming
About 4 days ago my neighbor came to me to ask me a question about her dog's nose. I looked at it and right away I thought paricite or fungas. It had small bumpy lumps above the nose that looked like pimples ready to burst, som had already stared to bleed. I told her the dog needs to see a vet so...

We are looking after my parents Lab/Pitbull cross for the week. He is an extreme excape artist. He is used to having free range of my parents farm, but because we live in town he had to be tied up. That didn't work (tried a lot of different harnesses) so we had to keep him inside. Of course he HATES...

For our All American dogs
Posted to:

I thought it would be fun, probably once again, to list our dogs, what we think they're mixed with and what traits from those breeds they've inherited. This came from thinking about one of my dogs and her personality with regards to agility. Tasha - Australian Shepherd/Husky - "Ausky"...

Attention span of a housefly!

I try to give our dog his meals in a private room or quiet space due to the fact that every time he sees or hears one of us moving, or hears a word that sounds like something he knows (bath, lets go, go for a walk, etc...) he freezes up, stops eating, walks away from his food bowl and follows this person...

As many of you will remember, Mom has been having some serious BP issues. In April she had emergency angio to clear an 80% occlusion of the left kidney artery. It was hoped that that procedure would help the BP. It didn't. And she's been back and forth to the doc repeatedly, changed meds so many...
