Attention span of a housefly!

With a dog his size, I'd be willing to give it two to three days without being too concerned, but make sure he drinks.

    He's a CUTIE!!

Sorry to butt in on the post, I just had to say how cute he is!

Yes cute as a button!!!  He reminds me of my Kota in his body shape and fur length!!  Kota is 21 pounds and gets about 1 cup of food a day.  He is always eager to eat and is a hyper dog as well.

Max is 63 lbs. and he usually just eats 1-1/2 c. a day. That really doesn't sound like much for a dog that size, but that's what I put in his bowl in the a.m. and it usually takes him most of the day to eat it.  If it's really hot out, he'll eat only 1 cup.  If he finishes it fairly early, I give him another 1/2 c. but usually there's still a bit left in his bowl at the end of the day, so I don't give him any more. It could be that even though your little cutie doesn't seem to be eating much, he's actually eating enough for him.  And maybe, like Max, he's a nibbler and a grazer rather than a gulper. That wouldn't really be a bad thing.

...well, now that everyone has been bringing up weight and amount of food, I'm curious about the labels on the back of the kibble bag. Kota and Max look gorgeous! :)

So, are the feeding reccommendations on the label overly-generous? According to them, Cyrus should be getting 2 cups/day.

In my experience, usually. Most labels suggest my 25 pounders should get about 2 cups, but anything more than 1 cup each and they're blimps. On the other hand, the kibble I'm feeding June now suggests 1-1/2 cups max, and she's eating 2-1/2 cups and not gaining (and she needs to put on a tad). Go figure. A lot of it tends to have to do with your individual dog's metabolism - so the guidelines are there to give you an idea, or a starting point.

I agree with Laura.  We adjust their food throughout the year depending on weight gain, etc.  If they look thin, we up the food a bit and vice versa.  I have no idea what our bags say anymore because we feed based on their appearance.  Two of our dogs are not as active as the others, so they get less to maintain their weight.  Kota and Tasha go to agility classes and work more often, so they get their dinners plus the extra training treats and such.
