Of Wolves and Dogs
Posted to:

There's a discussion going on in the nutrition forum and I don't want to hyjack it [ ] Current archeological evidence suggests a few things. First, there was a carnivorous canid that followed its slow-moving prey into extinction. The omnivorous canid became the wolf and other canids, such...

Alpha

The thread on pack behavior got me thinking. I have three dogs and I am alpha to them, but out of the 3, Dingo is clearly alpha to them. My question is: Can dogs understand that the human is the boss of them, but they can be the boss of the others? I can't figure out how to word this, so I hope you...

"pack behavior" question
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
is it really true that in wild canine packs, all the dogs follow the "pack leader" or "alpha" dog (as in, actually physically follow while walking/running) ? I've come across here and there, mentions of not letting one's dog walk in front of you or exit the door before you...

Bell trained now what?
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
There is another thread started here on how to bell train a dog. I did this when he was just 3 months old. He is now 10 months old (border collie/blue healer/lab mix) I made sure he rang the bell every time he needed to go potty. He caught on in less than 24 hours, however, he also caught on that the...

Hi, Last Saturday, I started renting a house with two friends, Ben and Selina, who own a two year old female schitzu named Molly. Before, when I would go visit them, Molly would be somewhat OK with me after barking a little while. So I knew from the beginning that she wasn't comfortable with...

Allergies?

My 12 month old pit bull has been getting these red, pimple-like bumps that turn into scabs after a few days. They are mostly on her legs and stomach. They're not itching her, she doesn't seem to care at all about them, but they look really bad when they are all bumpy. After reading some other...
