    bug-bites?? I don't know! Please Help!

I had my pup, Ichigo (10 month old chihuahua) outside playing with my neighbours pup, they were laying in the grass for awhile, so i am assuming these are bug-bites but i really dont know!  She doesn't seem to be bothered by them, she doesn't react when i touch them, and shes not licking or even sniffing at them.  They are about the size of a fingerprint which is pretty large when her stomach about the size of my palm.  Wondering if i should bring her to the vet.  Its kind of last resort though because i can't afford it....  [:(]

Welcome to idog; Are you sure your pup didn't have the spots before she played with the neighbors dog? I don't want to offend you, but you shouldn't own a dog if you can't afford veterinary care. Many vets will work out payment plans with you or trade their services for some work you can do for them such as cleaning cages. Some members have done this so their dogs could get the care they needed. The spots look like they could be ringworm ( which doesn't always itch and is a red circle with a light center), flea bites, a skin infection, or allergies. It may be mange but I'm not sure what that looks like. Flea bites, skin infections, and rashes caused by allergies are very itchy. You need to keep an eye on the spots to see if they spread or become itchy. If it is ringworm you can get it too so wash your hands thoughly if you touch the spots. If they spread, become infected ( develop pus) or start bothering her you need to see your vet; ask about working out a payment plan.

At some point, many people are strapped for cash, and unexpected vet visits can pose a problem. That's why I always try to have money set aside from things like that or, if anything, keep a credit card clear incase I don't have the cash. Also, some vets will hold checks until when sufficient funds will be in your account. Perhaps you can check with vets in your area to see if that's possible or if someone has a payment plan. Many vets do offer payment plans, although some offer it fonly or greater problems, such as surgeries.

Could you make the picture smaller? This one is kind of distored...probably because it's large. It'll be easier for us to give suggestions if we can see a better pic. [:)

Also, do you know if your neighbor treats her dog for fleas? It doesn't hurt to ask, especially if your dog will be playing with their dog.[sm=wink2.gif]

By the way, welcome to the forum.

How's Ichigo doing; are the spots getting better?

We have a short haired dog too, and after jumping in the groundcover at our new house, she had a bite like this too.  She had two in her nether-regions.  We kept an eye on them, and they just went away.  It wasn't itchy for her.  It scared me a little because of the redness, but she's had all her vaccinations, etc.  She wasn't acting oddly, so we just watched it.  They faded after a few days.   We thought it might be something in the overgrown groundcover, but it definitely looked more like a bite than a reaction to something leafy.
