flaky nose?

We noticed the top part of shadows nose has started to look flaky or crusty? It's a small patch where his nose meets his snout. Is this normal? A little unsure of what to do, please help.

My husband and I just got Sophie from North Shore animal league a week and a half ago. We are weaning her off the food they used because after reading on here, it doesn't sound like it's the best choice out there. She is 7 1/2 months and a shep/lab mix although we all think she is a shep/collie...
