a question about fish.

    a question about fish.

This was a few months back now but, it has been bothering me. I went into a pet store and was looking at fish. My shoe lace came undone so I bent down to tie it. When I was down there I happened to look under the fish tanks and there was a bunch of dead fish underthere! I am not a huge fish fan - more of a dog lover LOL but, this was really disgusting and unhealthy. Should this be reported to anyone? It was really nasty! From what I remember there were at least 10 or more fish under there. Because there was so meny, I don't think they were jumpers or anything. Should I go back and see if the problem has been cleared up or just forget about it?

Were the dead fish on the floor?

I have had fish jump out of my tanks and would have been oblivious to the fact that I had crispies on the floor had my dog not found them. It's possible, if this is the case, that people working at the store are not aware and I would have just told them about it.

If they were dead in the tank... the best you can do is complain to the owner. Fish (and I think Reptiles and Amphibians) are not held under the same "animal cruelty" laws as warm blooded creatures. That why they can get away with injected fish with color dyes or 'painting' them which involves dipping them into an acid then the dye.

Yes it was just that there was so many of them all swept soward the wall under the tanks. Oh well It just bugged me I guess I can't really do anything but, I wondered anyway.

If nothing else, wouldn't that start to smell pretty bad before too long? [:'(]

Well, if teenagers are working there then you can be pretty darn sure they don't care about dead fish. (Although there are some that do)

But, most teens who work at the pet store near me get squeamish picking up poo in the cages. [8|] Or just don't care about cleaning at all.

I am glad you mentioned some do K.m.a I am in my early 20s (23) Not long ago I was a teen and I was one of the ones that care. I am sure a lot of them do. Age should not have anything to do with caring or sweeping dead animals out of the way and leaving them on the floor.[:'(]

Well, if you put teens in jobs and they don't want to be there in the first place, then they won't really do a good job. Although it's true with adults as well, but I havent seen too many adults working in pet stores around here (dunno about there). And I know it's a stereotype, but stereotypes do have some truth to them.
