    puppy rhyming name ?

My friend is getting a new puppy. Here is her question.

If she names the dog Kit, will it have problems learning or beig confused with the command of sit?

It seems like such a stupid question but we are both experienced dog owners and we just can't decide.

She is thinking of getting two female litter mates and naming them Dottie and Kit...the sisters from  "A League of Their Own."

You could use another word to sit your dog.  Plus it is nice when strangers tell your dog to sit and your dog looks at them like they are crazy.

We thought of that but then it may cause problems at eh kennel etc when the dog will not sit for them. Also, we are all creatures of habit. They are so used to using the sit command that they think it will be easier to give the dog a different name if it could be aproblem than it would be to retrain themselves from the sit command[:)]

I've had this same thought.  A friend of mine is rescuing a dog named Beau, and I asked him if he was going to keep the name, because it sounds so much like "no".

I think if it sounds too much like a command, the dog will get confused.  But I don't know if this is actually true or not.

Hmm.....good question! I've had this problem with certain commands sounding like eachother, such as Heel and Here sounding a lot alike. But anyway, I know what you're saying, and I'm really not sure if it would confuse the dog a lot. Maybe if they concentrate on saying those words in a different tone of voice that will help.
