adding 2 dogs
Posted to: News & Entertainment
About a week ago, we added 2 adult dogs (in-laws'dogs) to our existing 2 dogs. They seem to be getting along very well, they don't really play together, but seem to tolerate each other and share the same space without any growling, etc. They respect each other's water dish and are pretty...

I've decided I will no longer post here. I just wanted to say a big thank you to all the people who have supported Willow thru these difficult years with her. I hope you will stay in touch with me thru e-mail. And, also thanks to those who always offered their good wishes for my grandmother...

Curly coated golden?
Posted to: News & Entertainment
Has anyone ever seen a golden that has a curly looking coat? The rescue that I'm looking at has one like this. It's not quite as curly as a curly coated retriever's, but it does have some rather tight curls. I was just wondering if full blooded goldens can have a coat like this, or whether...

overweight golden
Posted to: Nutrition & Exercise
Hello, I am new to this forum, but need some help. Our Golden Retriever, Midas, is only 4 years old and weighs 108 pounds. He shows all symptoms of hypothyroid disease, but the vet has done a ton of blood work and it doesn't show. He's also alergic to corn and wheat, so we feed a chicken, oatmeal...

causing my dog pain...do you think they understand?
Posted to: News & Entertainment
We had to bring our boy to the vet yesterday because he broke a toenail down to the quick. The vet (not the one we regularly see, so a new person to Chase) said that it needed to come off, and that we could have him knocked out first, but that she really prefers to avoid that if possible. We agreed....

Best guess on foster puppies?
Posted to: Choosing A Dog
I'm currently fostering two of these little guys- the merle on the left and the tricolor in the middle. Mom looked like an Eskie mix (cream/white, spitz ears and tail, medium length coat) or very small husky X. Dad is unknown. Aussie is possible, but they're TINY- 4 and 5 pounds at 12 weeks.

Buffy the Basset is coming home
Posted to: News & Entertainment
Yay, she will be flying in next Saturday...as long as the weather stays warm enough! The breeder felt the flight would be easier and quicker for her, as she doesn't like to travel much. I did offer to drive up there, but we'll do what she thinks is best. Her new collar, leash and name...

"War Dogs" - Excerpts
Posted to: News & Entertainment
Quite at random I was browsing the history section of a local used book store and picked up a volume titled "War Dogs." A little dry at times but full of information I've never encountered before, it's a wonderful account of the United State's canine military history. A book-lover...

Greater Swiss and Food Aggression show
Posted to: Training & Behavior
Last night I put on CM when I went to bed. Usually Fridays are reruns but his show last night had a Swissy with bowl aggression that I had never seen. I am especially interested in this episode because as you know, I own a Swissy and he was a HUGE resource guarder - especially food/bowl. It took us almost...

We need your help!

I know this belongs to the Advocacy section, but I thought it would get more traffic here. There is a petition going around for House Bill 2991 which would give stiffer penalties to those who engage in the dog meat trade in the Philippines. Although dog meat trade is illegal, the penalties are not...

pooch won't poo anywhere but the yard
Posted to: Training & Behavior
We adopted Rosie, a six month old german shepherd/queensland heeler about three months ago. She's always been a bit funny about going to the bathroom. When we first got her, she wouldn't go pee for 14 hours! Then, it would take her forever to go both pee and poo in the yard. Now, we've gotten...
