what to do with high energy dog???
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
Bugsy is approaching 18 mos now and is still so very, very high energy. This morning I took him for a 5 mile walk with 4 liters of water in his backpack, alongside his best playmate for the added diversion (she's awful on leash so he had to struggle to 'heel' the whole time). This was after...

Does anyone else's dog do this?
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
Georgie likes to grab Max's legs (and she'd grab others too) when they're playing. He doesn't seem too annoyed by it because he'll let her do it a bit before he'll tell her to stop and run off, and he isn't getting hurt. I've never seen nor heard of a dog that did that...

Plastic vs. Wire Crate
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
Some may know that Sierra has S.A., and as soon as McConnell's book comes, I'm going to tackle it. Currently, she stays in a plastic crate when nobody is home. Her SA isn't severe, and she doesn't destroy her crate or hurt herself. She does however pant heavily and cry when she's...

Story from local newspaper...
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
Since there was a discussion not long ago about our spiritual beliefs I thought I'd post this. My Dad read this article to me last night and it warmed my heart. Not sure if it belongs in this section or should be moved to NDR? At any rate, I believe there's a place for all animals in Heaven....

What "First do no harm" really means
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
I started out as a hurt and jerk trainer. It was what I was taught. Did well with it. First competition dog, CD three trials straight, one placement, under 12 months in age. Second competition dog, same breed, same methods. I ended up with a worn spot on her neck from collar corrections and a dog who...

WHY do people insist on going to work sick
Posted to:

and sharing their condition with others?? It just makes me SOOOO angry! First my co-worker insisted on being at the office the week between Christmas and New Years despite having a raging case of the flu and vomiting all over the place. She had personal days coming but had already scheduled the time...

Protein % in food related to aggression?
Posted to:
Nutrition & Exercise
I apologize if this is a repeat post. But, I recall hearing/reading briefly of a dog food study that was looking at the percentage of protein in dog food and its link to possibly a cause for dog aggression? I recall it was from Tufts University but have had no luck in finding out anymore info. ...

Quick brag on Bevo, Chyna, & Brinxx
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
I was so proud of my 3 adult dogs today. Chyna, Bevo, & Brinxx act as blood donor dogs for our clinic as do my boss#%92s 3 dogs. (Dobe, & 2 Boxers) We took blood from his dogs first & to put it mildly, it was a little stressful. Then it was my dogs turns. Chyna went first & sat very still...

I saw on the train today going to work, that there was a girl that has been living in the jungle in Cambodia for 18 years!!! She dissapeared when she was about 9yo? Some loggers caught her when she was trying to steal food they left under a tree. Her skin was black and her hair was down to her waist...

Gross poop eating - possible digestion problem?
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
I know this is a common question/complaint on the board, but this was really gross. Fed them dinner last night - they feed separately - then we went out for potty. 98% of the time, Winnie poops right after she eats, Petey's more like 70% of the time - sometimes it takes a couple of hours before...

Register AKC or Not?
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
I've had Pronto since Thanksgiving and realized that I have not yet filed his AKC papers. Is there any real reason/benefit for doing so? He's a companion dog, never to be shown and will be neutered. Is there any compelling reason for me to spend the money on registering him? TIA
