Register AKC or Not?

    Register AKC or Not?

I've had Pronto since Thanksgiving and realized that I have not yet filed his AKC papers. Is there any real reason/benefit for doing so? He's a companion dog, never to be shown and will be neutered. Is there any compelling reason for me to spend the money on registering him?

    TIA

No... unless you want the magazine subscription! [:D]

Only if you want to do companion sports like rally, agility, obedience or tracking.

So you can compete in Rally! Or Obedience! Or Tracking! Or Agility!

If it makes you feel better, I only mailed Mal's papers in like, two weeks ago, because we had a horrible time deciding on a show name. :P

Another reason to register is for proof of ownership.

    True! Forgot about that. :P

In any event, even if you don't want to do agility or obedience or whatever NOW, you might want to later. And it's cheaper to register him now.

True.  When DH got his lab puppy it was to be just a companion.  Six years later, agility was starting up in our area and he decided he wanted to do that, so ya never know.

Neither of my dogs are registered. I have the papers, but usually don't send them in. I don't show or do competitive obedience or anything so it doesn't matter to me. People around here always mention that their dogs are AKC registered when you ask what kind of dog they have...i think it can be a pride thing as well.
