Probably my favorite dog book is an old one "Beautiful Joe" by Marshall Saunders -- been around since about 1875 - yep, over 100 years.  and Marshall Saunders was actually a woman by the way.

One of my other favorites is a children's book "Muddy Four Paws" by Jean Ure -- has a bit of an 'unexpected' ending but a wonderful story.

Books:  Gaspode is my favourite dog character, he's in Moving Pictures by Terry Pratchett (and some of his other books).  I loved it when he said to another dog "I followed the horrible one home and widdled all down his front door..."  If you love dogs and humour and sattire and irony.... and if you love anything that takes the mickey out of HollyWood, I'd recommend it.

calliecritturs-since it's 1875 will there be any chance for me to find this book? I would love to check it out.
Cassiewith2dogs-I like Balto too..have you seen the 2nd and 3rd? I like homeward bound 1 and 2 but I never knew it had a book so thanks for that info. I cryed in where the red fern grows, couldn't help it.

uffy-sounds like a great book! I'll have to get a hold of it.
I use to not read a
ny book that didn't have an animal in it. My first book was one of the Hank the Cowdogs. I would suggest "The Good Dog" by Avi "The JunkYard Dog" and "Red-Dirt Jessie" by Anna Myers. My Favorite books would be from Albert Payson Terhune.
