    question

Since I'm new here I really didn't know exactly where to ask this but I decided to ask here......where do I find a good price (via the internet) on Heartgard Plus & Frontline ? I have bought from my vet before and his prices seem to be really high. I have 4 dogs so I go thru alot of this in a years time. Who has the best prices/service ?? Thanks !

I go to vet medic but that's UK so may not be very helpful to you.  Sorry.

I'm not sure what Front Guard is.... did you mean frontline?  I buy mine right here on dog.com - other places would include 1800petmeds, jbpet.com or Pet Edge, for example.  I get the spray and dog.com was cheapest.

As for heartgard, I don't buy that online.  our local humane society (where Sammy is from) has great prices on that.  Also, since heartgard guarantees that they will pay for treatment if your dog gets heart worm while on their product (or something like that) I think it needs to come from a real vet.  There were also some problems with buying things on the internet and it not being the real product, but a knock off that wasn't doing what it should.  So for something that important to me, I buy from the vet.  The flea spray I don't care about so much, even though the same concerns apply.

In the past I've gotten mine from 1800petmeds.com and usually with the heartworm preventative I'll go with a generic rather than name brand. Two dogs, both large, gets pricey. Though lately just because I can never seem to remember until the day I'm supposed to give the next dose and find that there isn't any, I've just been going to my vet, which is right around the corner.

If you do go with another supplier, they generally will need a referral from your vet, but the info about how to get that will be on their website and the vet can do it for you by phone or fax.

I am lucky, my vet matches the online price, as long as I print out the page and bring it to the office.....

That's pretty nifty.... my mom's vet (220 miles from us) has MUCH better prices than our "real" vet does.... so I'm lucky that the humane society sells it much cheaper.  My mom's vet is pretty close to online prices to try to keep business there, which is terrific

You could also try the Omaha Vaccine Co.  They're a US based company and have been in business for a really long time. I haven't seen a paper catalog in quite awhile, but I remember them being pretty reasonable.

Hmmm...it's been a while since I ordered online.

Okay I just looked it up and it's Tri-Heart Plus (generic of Heartgard Plus). It's 4.14/pill for dogs our size on drsfosterandsmith.com. I think actually I used to get Iverhart, but it's no longer carried by that site. That's also a generic though.

My vet told me they don't like to write prescriptions for online meds, because they can't be guaranteed, so, she decided to just match the price......[;)]

Sorry, can't offer any suggestions for the Heart Guard, but I found the best prices for Frontline Plus at [linkhttp://www.dog.com]www.dog.com[/link].

You know, my vet was a pain in the butt when I needed to get Sammy's meds online.....  and that was why.  However, their prices at the vet's were over double what I paid at 1800petmeds.com - so I just got a written script and mailed it in.  The vet wouldn't confirm anything over the phone or by fax, unless the online company told them I initiated contact via fax and they had a copy of the script.  But, the meds are guaranteed at 1800petmeds and I had wonderful service there and am grateful that I saved at least $50-70 over the last 3 months or so.

This is also the vet that wouldn't speak to DH about Sammy without my consent as I was listed as "owner"....  but, they are a good vet and although they make life difficult for me, they do have their reasons so its okay.

I had the same problem with a vet that I switched to (when we lived in Maryland) who was closer to my house. They completely refused to provide a scrip for online ordering of meds. So I switched vets. They weren't going to match the price and the general tone I got from that place in other ways too was "Rich people only, thanks." so I switched back to my original vet, even though it was about 30 minutes from my house. That vet was more than happy to fax the scrip in for me.
