is heartworm preventative crucial?

My parents have always had our dogs on heartworm preventative. Now that i've moved out and own my own dogs, i'm wondering whether they should be on it. They are totally inside dogs, but do go to the dog park and out to run at the park everyday...

Ok, so I have this "issue" apparently. I'm either a) going deaf, b)able to tune other people out really well, or c) really self-absorbed.... At work I'm pretty sure that I tune people out. I can't stand it when people just start talking to you without getting your attention first...

Usually Marley will smell at the beginning of a walk, do his business, and then we walk. Lately, he seems to be on a mission to smell EVERYTHING!!! Is it the time of year??? I don't get it. He especially does it if we take him to a new place. The annoying thing is that he will not listen to one command...
