    Homemade Dog Biscuits?

I was considering making my own dog cookies at home since all the good ones are usually expensive and right now I've been forced to budget.  Now I was wondering - How long do they keep?  What is the best way to make them really crunchy (they stay in the kong longer when they're hard and crunchy)?  What would be the best way to store them if they don't keep as long as the store-bought ones?

I bake at a lower temp for a longer period of time, even over night in some cases to get them crunchy as I want them to be. Like 200 deg's and 6 hours.

Have fun with it. Mine certainly think they have died and gone to heaven when I do bake. [:D]

When I made them, I found that you really do need to cook them on low heat and for quite some time.  You can put them in ziploc bags and freeze them and they'll keep for a very long time.

I used to make dog treats to sell. I would dry them either by baking at a low temp. for several hours, or by baking them normally (300 - 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes) and then leaving them in the turned off oven for 3-4 hours.

I have been convection baking mine (350 for about 20 minutes), then turning off the oven and letting them harden in there while the oven cools. I store them in a cookie jar. They stay for a good month! I like making them, because then I know what is in Marley's treats!

Oh, and cook them on parchment paper or a baking stone!

    I swear by this recipe:

it's quite similar to other recipes that have been offered here.

Sierra goes bonkers for these. I ziploc bag them and freeze them. [:)]

When I was making them, I was using real meat (ground, cooked pork), so I worried about leaving them out or even leaving them in the frig too long.  I'd leave a few in the frig but froze the rest in ziploc bags.  Not sure it was necessary, but something to consider if you're going to use a meat product or dairy of any kind.

I tried to sort of copy the recipe on the bag of Evo dog biscuits and got an excellent product: basically mashed some boiled potatoes and mixed them with an equal volume of ground chicken, added a couple of eggs, baked at 350 for half an hour, left to dry in warm oven overnight.
