    Dakota Update

Just wanted you all to know that Dakota found a new home, with a German Shepherd enthusiast.  She is now living on a 3 acre ranch in the high desert with a 8 month old and a 4 yr old GSD.  Hope it all continues to go well for her there.  She bit my ex hubby the other day and I had to make a decision.  When this popped up I was so happy for her.
So, now it is back to Toby (golden/chow) and my son's rescue the bagle. (beagle/bassett).
Thank you all for your advice and well wishes for her and I. Putting in a picture of Cleatis the Bagle.

I went to South Dakota once, I hated it.  But its good your dog found a home.  Yay.

I'm so glad Dakota found a new home. Your original question about not clicking with this dog reminded me of our cat we used to have. He lived 10 years, a long life for this congenitally heart defective kitty.

Anyway, my DH and I had just moved into our first home, I had a newborn and a 2-year-old, an aging dog and two cats. My 2-year-old was then diagnosed with some severe conditions and my DH and I became depressed, and we never slept due to my son never sleeping. I truly thought I would never be happy again, but we forged on. My anger and sorrow needed to "go" somewhere and that ended up being directed at the cat. I'm not proud of it, but it happened. I never was physically cruel to teh cat, but I verbally abused the "stupid cat" a lot. It wasn't the right thing to do, but it probably helped me cope with my situation.

Anyway, perhaps you didn't bond because of some conscious, or subconscious, family issue. It could be a lot more subtle then my situation, though. Or maybe your family and Dakota just were't meant to be!

Also, when we adjusted to our life, I did make it up to my poor kitty. I realized what I was doing and corrected my ways.

Good for you for finding Dakota a great home!
