Posted to:
Health & Grooming
This morning, our 1/2 long haired chihuahua 1/2 yorkie 4 month old puppy woke up with puffy jowls/jaws. He looks like he is puffing out his cheeks holding his breath. This happened overnight as he wasn't this way last evening. He doesn't seem to be in any pain and is eating and drinking. He isn't...

Won't go into yard w/o us-- SA??
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
We adopted our dog from a rescue at the beginning of June. She has never had a problem with us leaving the house. However, she will not go out into the yard to do her business unless we walk out with her. Standing on the deck doesn't work for her. I have to walk all the way down into the yard and...

Hi, I have an 11 year old Dalmation (Kirby) with Diabetes, diagnosed two or three years ago. We have been giving Kirby 28 units of Humulin L insulin twice a day. They are going to stop making Humulin L and my vet hasn't come up with an alternative other than "stock up", at least not yet...

Did I overreact? My dog ate a pork bone.

Hi everyone, I just joined and have read many threads and posts. This seems like such a great place! I'm looking forward to many happy hours of reading. I did something terrible, for which I feel very stupid. I let my 3 1/2 month old German shepherd pup Fritz have a pork rib bone, and I didn't...

FALL is Coming!!!

I guess one thing that is making my day brighter is the weather is cooler today. I have jeans on and a sweater. I love it!! The smell of fall, candy apples, colored leaves. Halloween is just around the corner. Kids are back in school in 6 days. Camp fires in the fall are the best. I am walking again...

After I feed Nature's Variety raw frozen to my dog, he likes it but got constipation. Then I mix with pumpkin but he doesn't really like it. Sometimes he sniffed it and won't eat. Is there anything that I can substitue the pumpkin with? Can I just use the veggies instead of pumpkin? Any advice...

I've had Kane for nearly a year now. He just turned one year old this month (Aug 17th) and is such a sweetie baby. He hadn't had an accident in the house since he was 7-8 months old and now he has started acting oddly. Three days last week, he peed in my hallway near my side door (he goes...

Behavorist or Trainer?
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
We had a very interesting conversation at the dog park today when someone suggested an owner seek the help of a dog behavorist (behavoralist?). Someone else said a trainer. We all thought we knew the difference but it soon became obvious that no one was exactly sure. So I said I'd clarify and report...

young dogs and exercise

At what age can you start walking your puppy 1 mile or more? It seems like some people have dogs that they walk and exercise right away. But what is healthy? I know you shouldn't going jogging with a 4 month old puppy...but is it OK to take it for a mile walk? You want the growth plates to...
