    Puppy with sudden puffy jowls!

This morning, our 1/2 long haired chihuahua 1/2 yorkie 4 month old puppy woke up with puffy jowls/jaws.  He looks like he is puffing out his cheeks holding his breath.  This happened overnight as he wasn't this way last evening.  He doesn't seem to be in any pain and is eating and drinking.  He isn't spunky like he usually is however.

Has anyone ever heard of this?  I've attached his picture that I just took showing his puffy jaws.

Without knowing what he normally looks like (he's cute, by the way), it's hard to tell how bad the swelling is.  I wouldn't take any chances though in case it's an allergic reaction to something.  I think I'd be calling the vet.

I think I'd head for the vet, too.  There's no way to tell if it's a reaction to something he ingested or if some weird bug bit him.  He's awfully cute, BTW.

I got home from work today and noticed my lab/sheppard has swelling in the same spots, and i am not sure what to do.
how is your dog doing? did you take him to the vet?

Ditto for your dog.  You just don't know what's causing it and if it's an allergic reaction and anaphylactic shock develops, it's life-threatening.  Best not to take a chance.

It sounds similar to "puppy strangles" or Juvenile Cellulitis.

The lymph nodes swell and can cause "puffiness" that can turn into oozing sores.

Here's some info [linkhttp://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/pups.html]http://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/pups.html[/link] (it's down the page a bit)

It could also be a reaction to a vaccine or something in the house or yard (maybe even a bee sting or something).

Either way, I would definately take him to the vet.
