    Fox terrier found,

Tonight a little white dog followed my neighbor home from the store at the corner.I am pretty sure its a fox terrier. He knocked on my door asking if it was mine.It wasnt but i took her in to try and find her home. She has tags,a rabies tag from 2002 in las vegas! We are in northern NY!This does help figure out her age a little more closely but not much more.Even if i called and got the owners name it wouldnt help me find them and she may have different owners now.It was too late to call tonight i will try tomorrow.Any other ideas how to help her find her home? Also she is in heat! Even my neutered males are going crazy!

If you get the owner's name you can try to search for them online.  Maybe she has a microchip?

I would think a FOUND sign would be most helpful. No vet is going to give you the private info...or at least they shouldn't. They can call the numbers they have tho...

They could be on vacation out your way...or have a vacation home in Vegas...you never know.

Do the usual things, signs on every corner....fill out a FOUND form at the local and surrounding ASPCA listen to their recorded LOST info line daily...scan the newspaper LOST ads and place a FOUND....these are usually free.

BTW do you have a pic of her? Wire Fox or Smooth? Oh, and did you check her ears and inner thighs for tattoos?

I wil take her in tomorrow to have her scanned for a chip.We live next to a military base so it is common to find dogs with tags from everywhere.I cant help but wonder why her rabies hasnt been updated from 2002 but i guess thats somethingi can mention if the owner is found.I didnt find any tatoos at first glance but i didnt give her a really good look over because she is very frightened right now.She has had atleast one litter of puppies in her life and obviously isnt spayed.
St first i though she was a jack russel but i looked it up and she definitely has the long nose and round eyes of the fox terrier.I have never actually seen one before but she has long harsh hair on her back and some longer hair on her muzzle. The long hair is only on the top of her back, the rest is short, she may be a mix of both? I took some pictures but a certain small dog that lives here chewed my camera cord.SO is trying to fix it now so hopefully pictures soon!
Nobody around here has a lost and found line but i can call the pound and other shelters and give the info incase someone calls about her.

The rabies tag was issued by somebody and might have a phone number on it. They'll know who they issued it to. It's a start.

I  called the local shelters this morning and left my info with them. The owner called them looking for her.She showed up right before i was getting ready to go get her scanned for a chip. She does have one so i guess i would have found her that way too.
