Jealous? Dog peeing on roomie's bed.

I've had Kane for nearly a year now. He just turned one year old this month (Aug 17th) and is such a sweetie baby. He hadn't had an accident in the house since he was 7-8 months old and now he has started acting oddly.

Three days last week, he peed in my hallway near my side door (he goes out the front door for potty breaks) and pooped there twice. Then he did it again the next day without reason. He is walked adequately and given run time everyday. He weighs nearly 70 lbs so when he goes...he GOES! My landlord is wonderful to allow me to have pets, but this has got to stop pronto!

Most recently, he pushed my roommate's door open, chewed up a bunch of his stuff, and then peed on his bed!!! This is so unlike my Kane-baby. The only thing I can possibly come up with is that I recently broke up with my boyfriend of 6 years and I wonder if maybe he is jealous of my male roommate because my ex isn't around the house as often. He grew up with my roommate though so I really don't get it. I also have a puppy in the house, but they are the best of friends! They play together, sleep together, everything! He wouldn't be acting up because of the pup would he?

Any ideas on what's causing it or how to stop it? I've started giving him extra attention and that seems to help (two days with no accidents). I just have to make sure this stops and I know that he knows better!

Dogs sense that things change in a household.  He sounds like he may be feeling a little anxious about the change.  Did he like your old boyfriend, have you been sad a lot lately?  That kind of "mistake" may be more of a marking /security issue.

I crate train my pups because of the occasional accidents.  It isn't fool proof, but they have a clue to keep them doing things in the right places! I am having a little issue of my own and not sure which dog is doing it! [8|]  So, I have to teach them to stay off of the furniture.  ...One chair is getting wet...it is a mystery!  So I have to get it thoroughly cleaned and put things on the furniture to keep em off!

We make sure gates are latched and doors are closed, that way the pups cant make mistakes.  They are into trouble as sure if they can find it!  The little darlings.

I'd take him to the vet for a check up.

dogs don't really get jealous as you suggest, and they LIKE pee and poop; they don't use such things to "get back at" people or to "express how upset they are".  Breakdowns in proper potty behavior are usually either the result of a UTI, a disruption in the dogs schedule that has his systems out of whack, or simply a need for more supervision/potty training. One year old dogs are rarely completely trustworthy.

    they LIKE pee and poop

    Mudpuppy that is funny.

I don't think my pups like pee and poop really.  They seem to be happy to get rid of it from the play yard though.  The interest seems to be other dogs pee and poop to them anyways!

If something is different in their environment (what they perceive as their territory) and there is a new person or creature in the area, they will sometimes remark the area and re-established the territory.  We have a guest room and when Trudy was a puppy, she poked around in a guest's stuff and pulled things all around the room and left a little puddle on an area rug at the foot of the bed (luckily on wooded floor).  Luckily, nothing was ruined (except a few Cliff bars that she found in a bag).  We did not punish her.  We made sure that the door was closed and denied her access to the room (period).  Now she will not enter that room unless she is invited and then she has impeccable manners.

The best thing to do is teach him not to enter that room.  Keep thedoor closed or barracaded.  It is not his territory.
