Any suggestions??
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
Hi everyone!! Ok, here's the deal. I would love some suggestions on breeds, because I've been looking and can't quite make up my mind.... I am looking for a dog that has all or most of the qualities of a Weimaraner - protective, affectionate, playful, loyal (and looks). However I know...

These are two dry food my dog can eat that he is not allergic too. Both are high calorie content, which I do not like, but honestly these are the only two dry foods he can have. I want to know in your opinion, which would you feed? He's only getting it as a snack before bed. I'm concerned...

What the heck is the 3rd Way?
Posted to:

I know it is positive, does not use compulsion, and is non-violent. BUT is it based on dominance? Pack mentality? Does it shun lure/reward, and instead rely on capturing, shaping? There is a conference coming up- I can't decide if I want to go because I can't find the right info. I did look at...

UTI or spring fever?
Posted to:

My 10 month old beagle puppy has recently started scratching at the door to go out what seems like every 10 minutes. I am thinking that he just wants to go out there to check out the yard, see what the neighbor dogs are doing, check on his toys etc. but I can't be sure because he is peeing most of...

Here she is We brought her home on Friday. She's a retired sled dog... though technically not retired since she'll be mushing when I do next winter. I'm going to post a whole bunch of pics from hiking today in the pictures section. So far so good... she's not had an accident (knock on...

What the heck!?

So I took Darby to the vet's this morning for her dental. Came home, let the dogs out of their crates to go outside. Brought them in, fed them. Walked into the kitchen, stepped on my nice cushy rug and it was HOT and WET. Looked to be a girl pee (puddle and a few drips). Next to the rug was a BOY...

Clicker Backfire!
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
Oh, just kidding. Murphy has become the Drawer Shutting King lately and he loves it so much that he follows me around the house (he's pretty much glued to me anyway) slamming drawers shut at every opportunity, without the clicker now. Yesterday he tried shutting a couple while I was in them! I told...

C/T while walking?
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
OK, so I tried something new today while training Juneau to loose-leash walk. Normally I have been walking a bit, then clicking if she stays with me for a varying length of time, at which point I stop, she sits, and I give her the treat. Then we start walking again. Instead I experimented with rapidly...

Were you surprised?
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
Just curious about how fast your dogs "got it" about clicker training. Were you surprised at how quickly they understood that their behavior was what got you to click? I think many times, people "talk" incessantly to their dogs, forgetting that the words mean less than the tone, the...

Deadliest Catch Episode 2

SPOILER....if you haven't seen it don't read on. I was incredibly bummed to see that 3 of the 4 men did not make it. Totally sad. The one guy, you could just see he was so buzzed off of just almost dying he was chattering like a bird...adrenaline...looking at and touching his buddies...

What would you do?

I got laid off back in December. Was unemployed until the end of January when I took a job making about half what I had been making. Finances are tough. We need to work on the house because we're having issues, such as septic backing up, leaking fireplace and mold along the south wall where the wood...

Instead of getting the guillotine nail clipper, I'm thinking about getting an electronic grinder. Does anyone have any experience with them? Would anyone recommend them?
