    Any suggestions??

    Hi everyone!!

Ok, here's the deal.  I would love some suggestions on breeds, because I've been looking and can't quite make up my mind....

I am looking for a dog that has all or most of the qualities of a Weimaraner - protective, affectionate, playful, loyal (and looks).  However I know that there is NO way possible that I can deal with their energy level.

Ideally, I would like a dog that can mellow with a daily 30-45 min. walk and going to the dog park maybe 2 times a week.  I intend on getting an adult, most likely from the pound/rescue, once I decide on a breed.  Also, I won't be getting him/her for about 6 mos to 1 year... so I have plenty of time to do full research :)

I don't much care about size, coat or looks... except drooling.  Lol... no drooling!  I am open really because I just love dogs.  :)

Aaaaanyway... if anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

Have you been checking out breed clubs and websites and talking to rescue workers like folks suggested in your previous thread? Anything new come up in your investigations?

It's great that you are going to look for an adult dog. [:D]

I would suggest adopting a weimaraner that is 5 years old or older. Find a great, laid-back older dog who is already housebroken and loves people. If you work with a rescue I'm sure you'll find a great dog. [:D]

Also, consider adopting an adult hound dog (coonhound, redbone, even bloodhound), or a retired greyhound. Retired greyhounds are super-laid back, but can really get it going outside when they want to! They will need a fenced place to run, btw, of course any dog should have a safe, fenced place to run. Of course you said you are going to go to the dog park, so that's cool.

Just my unbiased opinion[:D], but have you considered the rhodesian ridgeback?

    Hey all....

Paulaedwina.... I've checked out the Ridgebacks... everything that I've read seems to indicate that they need tons of exercise.  So I'm a little leary.

Jeano... I have considered an older Weim, but even at 5 years, would just a daily walk and a dog park 1-2 times a week suit them?  I'm not too sure.  Also, I've heard that retired greyhounds are awesome, however I am looking for a dog for the protection aspects as well.

Cita... yep, I've read breed standards until my eyes crossed before I even posted here.  I know more about breeds that I'll never own!  I've done selector quizzes (animalplanet.com has a nice one).  But I can't seem to settle on a breed that will suit my lifestyle and that I know I can give what they need.  I'm the type of person that has to research everything and anything before I own.  But then again, I never regret my purchases :)

Also, I prefer to get other's opinions that may have had experience with the breeds they suggestion.  So, I would appreciate any other suggestions on breeds :)

Hmmmm, I'll see if I can offer a few suggestions... these are just my best try at meeting the non drooling, exercise and protection requirements. There are lots of other factors to consider with each, especially the extreme amount of training and socialization necessary with the more powerful guarding breeds.
