Grinding Nails

I just got a cordless multipro, but i think its a bit too powerful for dog nails, (two speeds of 10,000 and 20,000), so I guess I'll return it and get a lithium ion cordless (variable speeds from 5000 to 35,000). That way, I can use it for other wood related things too.

Okay, so you folks with extra furry doggies... how the heck do you manage to grind the dew claws without ripping all the hair off? I did one of Rascal's, but I just couldn't get the claw far enough away from the leg and hair to do it effectively. Is there a trick? (I tried the pantyhose, but the dremel just got caught in the pantyhose.)

I gave up trying to dremmel my shih tzu's dew claws.  She has them on her front and back feet.  I just decided it was easier to clip them [;)]

Hmm... as long as it's not growing into the leg or catching on things there's nothing really wrong with long dew claws, right? My dog is TERRIFED of clippers - it would take many months to desensitize him to them. I might just have the vet do them when I take him in periodically...
