    I adopted a new Siberian...

Here she is :) We brought her home on Friday. She's a retired sled dog... though technically not retired since she'll be mushing when I do next winter. I'm going to post a whole bunch of pics from hiking today in the pictures section.
So far so good... she's not had an accident (knock on wood). hasn't eatten the cat, and since she had been hiking with my furry guys for weeks already she's dealing well... a few lip raises. We see the vet monday for a checkup.

    Gorgeous pup!

I always love hearing of a dog getting to do what it loves to do..

Keep the pics coming.and especially pics from the trail!

She certainly has the "I want to get to work"look in her eyes..

Stunning is right!  What a great looking dog!  And it sounds like she will be really happy with you, too.  Congrats to you both.

Awww thanks guys, I think she's beautiful too, though I'm quite biased lol.
She has QUITE the drive to work, I worked with her in the kennel I work for doing tours all winter. She has even turned out to be a great lead dog and on her first try up there did amazing.
Problem was, she is TINY compared to the alaskans that we work with, even small/runt sized :) compared to other Siberians... she has to sprint to keep up with the big dogs and boy does she... she'd pull her little heart out working way harder than any other dogs on my team sometimes. So, when the owner said he was getting rid of her it was a no brainer for her to come here. She'll train the kennel ;puppies with me this spring and work next winter when I do, though she'll get much longer breaks than the other dogs! I'll be hiking canicross style with her in the meantime and bike-joring and skijoring as well.
Today I spent some time on our hike (I harness her with a sledding harness and attach her to my waist with a bungee and leash) being pulled down the steep sections while sitting in the snow like a giant slide... great fun in the deep powder, we had a blast :)

It's been so interesting... she's at least 2-3 and has never been in a house so: stairs are the enemy, baths create a banshee like scream, and linoleum floors? oh boy they are scary :)... though beds are kind of nice lol I used to foster greyhounds from the track so I was ready for this, but it is still an experience to watch them them things for the first time that we normally take for granted.

What a good looking dog. Congrats!

She's STUNNING and she's going to have a very happy life with you :)  Congratulations and thank you for all you are doing for her.

Oh I'm sooooo Jealous. She's gorgeous. My friend adopted a retired sled dog a while back. She went through the things you've mentioned. However Kilo came in complete omega so he was quickly trained by her alphas. He was NOT allowed near the cat to begin with. After all the cat BELONGS to Eclipse...as do the couches, the carpet, the woodstove, the bedroom...Now Eclipse will 'share' a few things with him once in a while.

Whats her name? How tinyis she? Kilo is 35 pounds and wasn't the smallest from his kennel. He's kind of goofy looking. Looks less like a sibe than onyx, but he's got papers.

My female's coloring is exactly the same, but the markings on her nose are different and she has blue eyes.  She is 38# and tiny too.  (Her brother has brown and blue eyes and weighs in at about 48+#)

My female is fast, highly alert senses (which translates to nervousness if not allowed to run it out freely).  But she burns out like a hummingbird running out of sugar nectar.  Has a nap and ready for more! She seems to be more instigative for trouble like escape routes from fencing, gaits etc, so we have made several changes and improvements which are working well.  I do believe she could scale a 6' fence if she had a mind to.  It is rather amazing.   Her brother on the other hand is simpy watching and waiting for her to open up the escape path for him!  Little debils. ;  )

Is you Sibe from New England?
    • Gold Top Dog
    Awww, thanks guys :)
Huskymom - Her name is Khoale... she's 33.6 pounds, though the vet says she could use another 5, so maybe she's not so small compared to other Siberians... just small compared to the Alaskan Huskies.
Dogslife - yes she is from New england, but I have no idea who bred her, she was passed through at least two people before she got to me. i have a feeling she could scale a 6 foot fence too... while we have one I don't think we're ever going to leave her out there unattended like we do the other dogs since they have adog door. She's doing well with the crate, though with longer days maybe a tie out or a zip line? hmmm
