Clicker questions
Posted to:
Nutrition & Exercise
I just recently started with a clicker. The pom has down, sit, and finger touching down thus far. So, my question is...sometimes, he gets the hand signals mixed up. Do I proceed in the same click/treat fashion until he is bullet proof? Sometimes I make him go through all 3 commands before I...

What exactly happens with a "neuter"?
Posted to:
Health & Grooming
So I took my little guy in for his neuter yesterday. He's fine, if a bit uncomfortable, but upon inspecting the site of the operation I was quite surprised to see what looked like a single remaining testicle. Now I know this is kind of a perverse question, but I am curious - what exactly happens...

Peeing when excited......
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
Our 10 week old English Shepherd, Honey, is peeing whenever someone new touches her and sometimes when my husband comes in and pets her. Will she grow out of it or should I be doing something? I have been trying to tell people to ignore her when she is that excited but some people just don't listen...

Training & Behavior
I need some advice. I live in an apartment and while I am at work I put my 1 year old Boston Terrier in the bathroom. My problem is he scratches and digs through the walls! I move into my brand new house in 3 months and I really do not want him digging through my new walls. I have tried putting him in...

Eddie - Transition to the Irena Diet
Posted to:
Nutrition & Exercise
"Eddie" arrived tonight and I thought it might be helpful to see what a new dog goes through here. I'm putting this in the nutrition section since a big part of working with a new dog in our program is transitioning him over to the kibble/raw combination he will eat both here and at my...

Cherokee ate a bowl of fat
Posted to:
Nutrition & Exercise
So I just ran out for a few minutes, and my sister called me to tell me that Cherokee had ripped up the trash, in which she (my sister) had dumped a bowl of beef and bacon fat in this morning. So Cherokee ate a pretty large bowl of pure fat, I would guess a pound or more. This is the part when I guess...

My Uncle is in surgery right now. He's having a heart valve replaced. Please keep him & his surgeons in your thoughts & prayers. This is the man who was my rock when things got really dicey with Dad. He's a very giving man, in his own way. He is also the last (reasonable) family member...

Is any kind soul traveling from Denver eastward, who wouldn't mind a well-behaved, paying companion? Gus is a working Border Collie who has lost his job on a large ranch near Denver, because he's lost the hearing in one ear. We are going to give him a retirement home here as a chore dog for Patrick...

Flapjack went in for neutering yesterday. We picked him up about 3 pm, and ever since then he is drinking A LOT of water. I have a large bowl down (a large mixing bowl size), and he drank 2 entire bowls before I took it away! Then he wanted to go out, and spent the whole time eating snow frantically...

Another Mom update

And again, my apologies for being so slow to do this. There just seem to be far too few hours in the day. Mom moved to her assisted living apartment yesterday. She's more content in her own place, with her own stuff. Yesterday was tough, and confusing, for her.....we had moved almost everything...
