    Need Transport from Denver to East Coast

    Is any kind soul traveling from Denver eastward, who wouldn't mind a well-behaved, paying companion? Gus is a working Border Collie who has lost his job on a large ranch near Denver, because he's lost the hearing in one ear. We are going to give him a retirement home here as a chore dog for Patrick (Doug the Dog is officially retiring this year), but it would be great not to have to put him through the trauma of shipping alone. He's fully trained, well-behaved, and neutered.

    Permission to cross post.

    Where on the east coast? North/South? Just curious - I could only help if it was north, and the route went through MN, WI, Upper Michigan.

    Too bad you didn't know about this a week ago.  I'd get all pumped on coffee and drive the mid-west portion since I didn't have a job, but I start on Monday.  I'd be willing to do a mid-west leg, say Illinois to PA...

    I could do PA to ???  I'm not currently working so I have time & I love to drive.

    OK. I love the pumped on coffee bit. I know what you are talking about - I did a fourteen hour round trip one time jacked on Starbucks iced coffee. That was a blast! We have only one car presently or I'd drive to MO or something. My mentor lives there and would probably put me up. Unfortunately Patrick kinda needs the car to drive to work. Geez, where ARE his priorities? [8|]

    The deal is, all my friends who could help with transport are basically on the east coast. So north or south doesn't matter. I live near the border of NC and VA so I'm smack dab in the middle of where he'd come, no matter whether he came north or south. There's a sheepdog trial about an hour from me where I could pick him up, and participants will be coming from all over for that - just not west of the Mississippi. [:(]

    I'm very excited about Gus - he's a cousin of my old Jen dog and the son of a terrific dog my mentor just retired. He's just got this little problem that's not his fault - I can't wait to give him the home he deserves - and Patrick the dog HE deserves!

    Have you tried the Yahoo transport group? I have a link, somewhere, if you need it.

    Is that for rescues only? I'd still appreciate it as I move many rescues around (need a ride from NoVA to here next week in fact). I got kind of out of the loop for a while and need to rebuild my resources! [;)]

    Gus isn't technically a rescue, so I'd hate to take a ride from a dog that needs it, for his sake. If worse comes to worse we can fly him but with his ear trouble I just hate to risk it.

    This is the link I used;
    http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/train_transport_rescue/

    but that would only cover part of his trip, but there are other transport groups. I'd maybe either join that one and post for help and further info, or try searching. I sometimes have trouble searching for yahoo group things, (always just gives me a general yahoo group site) so I generally just get on one of the groups and ask somebody! Since he's a paying customer, and is a dog in need, I don't see why he couldn't hitch a ride, but each group probably has different rules.

    Have you tried the BC forum?  Asked if anyone could do Denver to Kansas? or something?
