Hi everyone, I've been searching previous  osts trying to find an answer so I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed and I didn't locate it. I've owned cocker's for 17 years and recently adopted my first rescue. My new guy, Austin, was located in a horrible shelter...

My pup and Bordetella
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
On the 8th my 5 month old pup was diagnosed with Bordetella. My vet gave me the option of two medications commonly used for the sickness. One was more often used and I can't remember the name, the other was Doxycycline which she said was better, but less people used it because it has a chance of...

Growth spurts?
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
Do dogs get growth spurts and need to eat more, the way humans do? For those of you who read my other post, the weather has now cooled off and Ben's meals are more "even" again. However, a little while ago I fed him his last meal of the day and when he was finished eating all of it,...

Ears *big sigh* worry w/ a question
Posted to:
Health & Grooming
Sunday evening, Jezz got to play in the yard. The heat and mosquitos have kept us indoors a lot lately, but I wasn't really thinking that maybe the grass seeds were just at the right height for her ears. *Sigh* She came to me shaking her head, and I checked her ears, no seeds, no bugs - and she went...

my adorable little cocker has a fetish! she can't resist rolling in poo! i live on a nice quiet cul-de-sac and let her run around outside sometimes. but if she sees it, she will roll in poo, whether it's doggy, kitty, or bird. i've heard that instinctively dogs do this because the are trying...

Teething...how long does it last?
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
We are about to get a 10 month Havanese- she is from a puppy mill (I am not sure if living in a cage for 10 months would have an effect). Her foster moms says that she chews everything. I was curious if this could still be teething or should she be done w/ teething by now? We are exprienced w/ dogs...

Cat Allergies

About a month and a half ago I rescued a cat from the vet. She was about to be p.t.s my dad is allergic to cats and so I bought him some allergy nose drops and tablets. They work great but he is now refusing to take them. I know it something to do with the cat hair that makes people allergic so does...

I took Buck in this afternoon for his yearly physical which includes total blood work--Comeplete Blood Count, Profile SMAC 12, T-4 Thyroid test. His heart and lungs sounded great, his ears clean, his eyes clear and shiney. However, his blood count showed high white cell count, and his SMAC 12 indicated...

Raw and no ticks!

Nutrition & Exercise
When I adopted my dog in Oct 2004, he was emaciated. He immeditatly got ticks the week I let him in my yard. He continued to get ticks off and on for a year, even with use of Advantix. When I stopped the Advantix, the ticks came. I started him on raw this winter and he has not had a single tick (no...
