Raw and no ticks!

    Raw and no ticks!

When I adopted my dog in Oct 2004, he was emaciated.  He immeditatly got ticks the week I let him in my yard. He continued to get ticks off and on for a year, even with use of Advantix.  When I stopped the Advantix, the ticks came.

I started him on raw this winter and he has not had a single tick (no advantix).  I , on the other hand have had 2.   He is thriving on the raw, adores eating it, and I think this may be one more advantage of raw. I think his immune system has recovered.

Any raw feeders have a no/ or reduced tick problem since going raw?  (this is a big tick season)

I haven't had any personal experience but at a time when there were more raw feeders posting frequently, they did mention that their dogs are flea/tick free without the use of medications.

mine sure aren't. We live in tick-central, and without frontline we average five to ten ticks per dog per day.

Frontline Plus is my dog's best friend, lol.

I agree; Jessie gets a lot less ticks with Frontline PLus than she did with Advantage; my derm vet also said it works better for ticks.

Knock on wood, I feel him everyday and no ticks. and no fleas, but we have no fleas in our yard due to our spinkler system drowning them.  We have a nice stand of woods too that is loaded with ticks.  My bulldog doesn't go down there so she is usually tick-free.

I do give him CanineOne supplement every day and some SeaMeal most every day.  The whites of his eyes are SO white now. Still has horrible breath tho (I can't see any bad teeth) neither could the vets.  Digestive enzymes did not help.

Bad breath can be thyroid, or it can be indicative of kidney problems.  Be sure to have a complete panel done, especially since you have no history on him.  If nothing is wrong, then you have a useful baseline for the future, since you are raw feeding.

I don't know if there is a connection between raw food and no ticks. But I do think that dogs that are fed a quality diet have less parasites (ticks, fleas) in general. I know that my current dogs, who eat some raw and some kibble, have much less of these pests than dogs I have had in the past. (Before I became more educated about animal nutrition.) I rarely see a tick on my dogs, and very few fleas. And we live in a wooded area that has lots of both.

Becca - good advice.  I  will have his blood tested.  I think I have seen all his teeth even the back ones when he yawns and 2 vets saw nothing other than stained teeth.  I tried both kibble and /or  raw to see if either was the culprit and the breath is bad on both.

I've never once used Frontline, Advantage, or any other flea products (including natural ones), but he's never had a problem with fleas or ticks. I got 2 fleas off of him about 6 or 7 months ago and never saw another one. I take him in areas that are near the woods and I know have fleas too. I've always been ready to use some type of flea killer, but still waiting to see any fleas. He eats the "holistic" brands of dog food like Nature's Variety, Timberwolf Organics, Innova EVO, etc.

What I don't understand is WHY having a strengthened immune system would make dogs less susceptible to fleas and ticks.

It has to with the EMF (electromagnetic field) in your dogs body.  A strong one repeals parasites and makes it inhospital for them to use your dog as a host.  A strong immune system strengthens the EMF.  Vaccines and toxic food deplete the EMF.

    Heres some info.

It makes sense. The only part I can't buy into is the "healing halter" she's selling. It's already a stretch for me to think of quartz crystals as healing, but then the a design on fabric that supposed to have the same effects. Call me skeptical, but I don't believe it.

I find this thread intriguing.  I was at a weim fun field day at a hunt club a few months ago.  Over 20 weimaraners learning all about birds and hunting.  People would go into the field and do thier thing and then come back out of the field a half hour later and they would be picking between 5-10 ticks off thier dogs.
We switched to raw this year, but I still treat with advantix. So I wasn't too worried. Though I expected to find some on him when our turn in the field was over. Not one tick.  Not a single one.  Not sure if its diet or the tick preventative.  I have to think that most of these people treat thier dogs for ticks give we live in new england.  So I'm not sure.  I do find it interesting...

ticks "look" for carbon dioxide, heat, and motion. I have trouble believing raw-fed dogs differ from kibble-fed dogs in these characteristics.
