refusal to completely "give" - steak bone
Posted to: Training & Behavior
Gandolf, our rescue pooch with dog aggression and some people aggression, was given a steak bone by a neighbor the other day. The neighbor, who is wheelchair bound, stuck it through the fence. We have encouraged him to bring treats, because both Gandolf and our other dog bark at him mightily as he wheels...

Need to switch food, any suggestions
Posted to: Nutrition & Exercise
My vet recommended switching foods about 4 times a year and I know that people on this board also agree. My dogs love Solid Gold, what do you think I should switch them to? We have tried everything well except nature's variety and TO-but I can't get TO in my area. They have liked the foods before...

UPDATE ON BUBBA
Posted to: News & Entertainment
Well I took Bubba too the vet at 2:45pm today. He end up having a bad ear infection and allergies. So they gave him some ear medication. And told me too go get him some benadryl. Had all his booster shots and a fecal test. No worms or anything like that. So he is pretty much in good shape other then...

Let's send our prayers to those in the Northeast!
Posted to: News & Entertainment
Let's send our prayers to those in the Northeast! For those in Penn, NJ and NY. Hopefully I am not leaving any states out. Out west and south of where I live there has been a lot of flooding in NY. They even had to close part of the NYS Thruway and 2 Truckers died out by Unadilla when the bridge...

I have always wanted to get Max a dino cuz, because I think they are ridiculously cute. But, he has never really liked the cuz ball until a few weeks ago, and he only really likes the medium sized bad cuz, and he doesn't like the large bad cuz, nor does he really like the medium good cuz. He only...

Too hot out to eat?
Posted to: Nutrition & Exercise
My two dogs, (1 year old & 9 1/2 week old), haven't eaten very much in the last two days. The temperature here has skyrocketed, so it is a lot hotter than they are used to. Do you think that is why they are not eating? Has anyone noticed their dogs not eating very much when it is hotter out?

milk thistle
Posted to: Nutrition & Exercise
I have heard it is good to give milk thistle when you give heartworm meds. So, I have a few questions. 1) where can I buy this and in what form (pills, powder, etc.)? 2) how much should I give a 10 lb. dog? 3) how many days should I give it? 4) Is there anything else I need to know about...

Follows his nose
Posted to: Nutrition & Exercise
I have a cocker spaniel who loves to follow his nose. I realize that this is normal for this breed. In almost every aspect, he's very well behaved. He's 8 years old and we got him in November. He was a stray and had to survive on his own for quite a while before he was rescued. I like to...

Hand signals vs. verbal commands
Posted to: Nutrition & Exercise
I was just wondering if one works better than the other? We trained our puppy using a lot of gestures and hand signals. Now, if I want him to give me a paw, I tell him to "shake," but he doesn't seem to be very responsive until I extend my hand to him. Sit/down requires an arm extended...
