She's a pooper
I have a 16 month old female maltipoo and two young children (6 & 10). Our dog came into our home in late August from a family with 4 younger children. It was good home - just became too much for them with the young children. She came to us bell trained and is very well behaved except... I think...

does clicker training have drawbacks?
I've been thinking of doing some experimental clicker traing but am somewhat skeptical of teaching the dog to focus on sound rather than hand signals/verbal ques...has anyone here tried both? Thanks Henry

My dog is a little too agressive at the dog park
I have a sweet Doberman-Ridgeback female, 4 years old. She has never had behavior problems before. But when I take her to a dog park (which I do almost everyday), and a dog bumps into her, or vice versa, or the other dog sniffs her a little too closely (she is neutered), Sophie gets mean and starts a...

GSD/JRT "aggressive" to smaller dogs
Hi all-- Hoping someone can offer a solution to a dog aggression/dominance issue my dog is having. Her name is Maggie. She's about 16 months old, so decidedly in her adolescent phase. She's a cross breed of a German Shepherd and a Jack Russell Terrier, and in terms of size she's about...

Youngster jumping and grabbing at your hand during a walk-arrgh!
My daughter's Golden Retriever is 15 months old. He's a very smart dog and she has tried to do all the right things. When he gets excited on a walk he jumps up and down and grabs your hands and arms. This is one behavior that has to stop. He's pretty mouthy as it is. My daughter says that...

neighbors ignore their dogs and we get to pay for it (A bit vent-like...
I have no idea why my neighbors thought it would be a good idea to get dogs. They have 3 cats and we all know that cats are much more independent than dogs. They initially got a bassett hound puppy which I thought was a huge mistake. Bassets bark a lot and I read that its a good idea to get two from...

Feeding frenzy and annoyances questions.
My dogs became increasingly spastic over feeding time. Downright rowdy the moment they knew it was dinner and breakfast time. At one point they were so rowdy that I became very afraid of being pushed down the stairs, EVERY morning, every evening. It was out of control. At first I started crating them...

Ultrasonic bark control
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find many threads on it. Has anyone been successfull with bark devices that emit a high-pitched tone instead of shocking the dog? I'm skeptical whether they work or not. When I take Piper to my apartment next semester I am afraid her barking...

Are dogs pack animals?
Firstly let me point out that living in Bangkok - I'm not often around when many of you guys are - so it may seem like I've disappeared from a discussion - when I'm actually asleep - if you see what I mean?! I just read this year old article by Jean Donaldson - which challenges the whole...

Why did the chicken cross the road?
(sorry if this isn't new, I don't remember seeing it) Why did the chicken cross the road? Pavlov : we fed the chicken on the opposite side of the road each day at 4 p.m. until the chicken’s autonomic system actually began causing the chicken to cross the road at 4 p.m. without even questioning...

Negative Dog Behaviors
I have had my dog Finley for just over 11 months. He is a rescue dog who was taken to a high kill shelter. I dont think he was there very long before I rescued him. I got him when he was 2 1/2 years old. Even though he was allegedly house broken and potty trained, I started working right away to make...

Aggression
I have a young GSD , she's only 15 weeks old, training is going well, almost fully house trained only the very odd 'accident' however when we go for walks after about 10 minutes she gets quite feisty on the point of aggression, snapping at my feet and legs, she does this on or off the lead...

Our dog hides our belongings-HELP!
Our 14mnth old Shar Pei hides anything that has a family members smell on it, every time we leave the house or leave his sight. We hardly leave him alone all day long, but if we do, he pulls a article of clothing, stuff animals, slippers and shoes, to the back of the garage where he hides all his stuff...

Can dogs get Dementia
HI! My oldest dog Oscar, 11 yr old BC/cattle dog mix has been having agression spells. It started about a yr ago, if you touched him, even lightly, he would go into this horrible growl, bark, etc. He's has been at the vet numerous times, we all decided it was pain related. We finally put him on Medrol...

Specific Nervous/Scared/Agressive Issues
I have 2 minature Australian Shepherds. My oldest is a 5 year old female and the other is a 4 year old male. As a background, I have tried to socialze my dogs well as I could as puppies. They go to dog day care 2-3 times out of the week and excersize consistantly when they do not go. Walks, runs,...

Guarding? Wary? What?
Okay so I've had Simba from puppy hood(duh) and recently he's become...I guess more wary of strangers. I get that he's growing up, has this happened to others? Is it something I should put a stop to or let what comes naturally to him? He used to be wiggle butt, whining for strangers to come...

Has anyone tried the Newtrix halter? (Kim_M)
So I bought the newish Newtrix head halter, and I'm wondering if anyone else has tried it out? So far, I have to say, I'm not a fan. I really like the idea of having the halter attach behind the head, rather than under the chin, however..... - It is not that user-friendly. There are no simple...
