What am I doing wrong?...

    Thanks PO, I am sure this is part of the problem, I will start watching his food more closely.

    I always feed with an eye to training, but have probably got more generous in my old age :)

    You may just have a reserved temperment... I had such an aloof dog (again one what was from a breed not expected to behave in that manner with his people (dobe).  Marshall was his "own" dog.  He did what was asked, but he didnt seem that he had bonded.... Then at 5, he changed.  He was more typical in excitement with training, his people etc... He had been perfect with our daughter (his was 18 months when born).  He was always connect with her.  It was almost as if he built his bond with her, then transferred it to us.

    Have you tried a flirt pole? How is he with prey drive? Pit bulls LOVE flirt poles

    Thank you espencer for an excellent tip. I will try a flirt-pole. I think part of the problem is he has been allowed too much freedom (in the fenced back yard) and his drive is reserved for squirrels
