You may just have a reserved temperment... I had such an aloof dog (again one what was from a breed not expected to behave in that manner with his people (dobe). Marshall was his "own" dog. He did what was asked, but he didnt seem that he had bonded.... Then at 5, he changed. He was more typical in excitement with training, his people etc... He had been perfect with our daughter (his was 18 months when born). He was always connect with her. It was almost as if he built his bond with her, then transferred it to us.
