Click to calm?
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
I know there is a book of this title, which I have not read (yet). I am interested if anyone has read it and what did they think? Has anyone applied this technique? Did it work? Why do you think it did/didn't work? Is it used to calm hyper, and excitable dogs or is it used to help fearful or aggressive...

What would you do if your trusted vet said...

"I think so" when asked if he could perform a surgery. The dog in question has an appointment for x-rays under anesthesia Monday, so for now this situation is still hypothetical - but here it is... 5 year old dog doesn't use his front leg at all. During the physical exam the vet thought...

German Shorthaired Pointer...is this normal?
Posted to:
Choosing A Dog
Found Beau's first baby tooth on the floor last night...he is 4 mos! Also, he is growing by leaps and bounds, but you can see his ribs if he sits or lays a certain way...basically he seems very lean. He doesnt appear to be TOO skinny or anything, but I was just curious if as a breed they are somewhat...

Got a new puppy....Guess the breed!!
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
Well I took a trip to the dog pound yesterday to go check out what they had in stock and ended up bringing a little puppy home. They are overrun with puppies and dogs so I had to get one. They are a very high kill facility so it's pretty important that people adopt them. This is my third dog from...

Ringwormed pups in pet shop.
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
A few weeks ago, I was very surprised to discover a litter of Staffy pups in a local pet shop that obviously had ringworm. I wondered what was going to happen to them. I couldn't see anyone being silly enough to buy puppies with bald patches, even if the pet shop did do the most irresponsible thing...

1.5 Year old Pom doesnt like new pup Pom
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
Our 1.5 year old Pom, Bruce loves other dogs. He loves to play with my fathers germen Shepard and pretty much any other neighbor dog. He has no fear either! We decided that maybe he would like a friend to play with during the day, and we wanted a 2nd Pom anyway. We took Bruce with us to look at the...

Need some help getting my dog used to a Halti-she really pulls on the lease and a read on this site that the Halti might be a good idea. I am having bad luck getting her to leave it on for even a minute without going crazy trying to get it off. Any hints?

excessive barking - new problem
Posted to:

My dog is a 15 month old mini-poodle/Aussie sheppard mix called Hugo. A sweet and intelligent dog; apart from some health issues early on we haven't had any problems with him. He was never been a *barker*. He'd bark at people coming into the house and that's about it - we have never discouraged...

Would you leave your dog outside a store?
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
I have been pondering this. I live about half a mile from a grocery store. During nice weather, I will walk there with my kids to get a few groceries. This would be a perfect and lovely walk with my doggies, but I think I would be too terrified that someone would steal them.
