How do you know when it's time?

Our sheltie has cancer. I had surgery in April the dog had a tumor removed in May and I had a baby in June so life has been a little crazy for a while. Baby and I are fine but the dog's tumor came right back. We have decided to keep the dog as comfortable until it's time to put him to sleep....
