    Baseball-Cubbies (sorry Meilani)& Red Sox

it's kinda sad. Been watching the series in a haphazard way and the Cubs seem to be having some real troubles. I feel bad for them as I like the team and have a thing for DeRosa (used to be a Ranger hubba hubba). They are not as the cliche' goes..."peaking at the right time".

Here's to hoping they can win a game...make it interesting.

Cubs /Dodgers series has amused me a lot...love seeing Torre back in the playoffs while the Yankees are golfing. There's just some justice in that somehow.

Glenda I know you are a Red Sox gal...Badrap too if I recall. You guys are probably feeling pretty good! Wouldn't it be something to get all the way thru and perhaps have Manny and Torre in the big series?

Oh I agree Gina. But I don't want to see a Dodgers/Sox series. Us old folks have a heck of a hard time staying awake for the West coast games! I enjoyed hearing Derrick Jetter whining that this is the first time he's played for "nothing". Poor muffin! Red Sox fans don't feel pretty good until the fat lady has sung. We never EVER take for granted that they are going to win it all. Too much history! Although, recent history is looking a whole lot better. In the last seven years, six of the world series winners have been Wild Card teams....including the Red Sox. The seventh? The Red Sox last year who had the best record in baseball and stayed the best.... All that said....we still stocked in the hotdogs. We MUST eat hotdogs on game days. Although, I reminded DH that if we were AT the ballpark, we'd have more choices and he agreed that nachos or pizza would probably be ok too. Wed we had nachos and they won, so hopefully I won't have to eat nothing but hotdogs for the forseeable future. Heaven forbid though, that we eat something else and they LOOSE! Us Red Sox fans have our wierd superstitions! I would like to see the Curse of the Goat broken. However, I don't want it to be at the expense of the Red Sox. And it sure doesn't look like it's going to be....they are just not playing well ths post season. Ahhhhh! October!

DH and I went to the Wriggleyville shop in Macy's while we were in Chicago and forked over some serious cash for "authentic" MLB Cubs jerseys.  If they get smoked now I'm going to be pissed!

    • Gold Top Dog

maybe you can exchange em? LOL...

no, no, Gina, I do NOT feel good. LOL... I feel nervous and pained for the first post-season in a LONG time.  I follow baseball VERY closely, especially the AL, and the Red Sox don't even belong in the playoffs, if you ask me.  Their bullpen is a MESS and they're not hitting anywhere near what they should be, and they are racked with some pretty serious injuries, not the least of which being Lowell and his hip problem.....  Beckett is my ACE... and look where he is.. game 3 starter???

I felt really great for Lester, though, because he's become a real presence on the mound..

The Rays are Red Sox killers, always have been.. just look back at some of the Sox losses to them over the years.  If they eliminate the White Sox, which I think they will based on yesterday's performance, then the Red Sox are in real trouble.  These guys are young, and they're on FIRE.  By comparison, the Red Sox look old and tired.

The Cubbies are SHOCKING me, actually.  It'e the curse of the Sport's Illustrated cover!!Wink

I like the Dodgers, anyway, because they're mostly Red Sox now (how bout that Manny Ramirex, eh?), and because I've always liked Torre.  I have to laugh and laugh in the face of the Yankees front office.  Clearly, they made a serious mistake there, and it gives me great joy to see Torre in the playoffs after the way NY treated him.

I could care less about the Phillies/Brewers, because I don't think they belong in the playoffs, either, and they will surely be eliminated by whomever wins the Dodgers/Cubs series, which I have to believe will go the full 5 games....

I dunno.....wasn't too shabby a top of the first!

Dang it...we had hotdogs tonite, and, now I'm gonna have to drink a few ounces of beer again AND eat hotdogs on Sunday........guess it'll be worth it if they can get this one wrapped up in three games.

Now last night.. THAT was what I call BASEBALL!  What a great game.. I love October.  I almost wish they would go 5 because I so love the nail-biting!!

Did I mention that I live for this??Wink

Congrats to your Sox ladies! Chicago is completely knocked out, and now those nasty Angels are too!...lol. I dunno about getting past the Rays but hey...they made it this far!

    • Gold Top Dog

*sigh* poor Cubbies.... I was rooting for them! Casey even has a Cubs collar on now....

and I just want to add - I live in FL, and am NOT a Rays fan, its only the Cubs for me =]

Sigh.  We did pizza Sunday night and they lost.  We ate hotdogs last night and they won.  Even with 100% all beef hotdogs, my innards are groaning at what I'm feeding them.

Yes, last night was GREAT baseball.  Nail biting, baseball at its finest!

I saw a poll on CNN this morning that had The Rays taking the ALCS at 55%.

I am not looking forward to thisStick out tongue

I actually am.  The Rays are a good team.  But the Angels had the best record in baseball this season.  We beat them.

The Rays have done a incredible turn around from being the worst in baseball last year with 96 or 97 losses, to an equal number of WINS this year.  But they haven't done a post season, save the first playoff, and I'm not sure the momentum of that win is going to carry them past the Sox who have a heck of a lot of post season experience.  The White Sox really weren't much of an opponent.  The Red Sox, on the other hand, are.  And lets not forget the Fenway faithful.  Playing Fenway in the regular season is one thing....POST season?  Not for the novice team.  And there WILL be Red Sox fans in FL as well.  In the many places we've lived, Red Sox fans swarm to a ballpark that's usually near empty when the Sox are in town.  Those fans give the team one heck of an advantage.

But the Angels had the best record in baseball this season.

Keep in mind they play the Rangers and MARINERS multiple times each per season....as well as the A's. Our division is VERY weak and IMO their record is overblown because of that. Look at your and the Rays division and look at when they played one another...that's more of a true reflection of how they'll do.

It looks grim, ladies. But they've been here before. Here's to hoping they can extend things tonight...and maybe even make it a series!

Talk about a comeback!  Even the Fenway faithful were leaving early.  That doesn't happen in Fenway.  Holy, spitting heck!

After the first six innings I was ready to call it a night.  After the top of the seventh, I was seriously considering my nice warm bed.  And then they FINALLY woke up.  Prior to last night, prior to the bottom of the 7th, the past three games I've been wondering just where my Red Sox were hiding and what kind of drugs the Rays were using to hit soooo many homers.  And then, hello!  Here they come back.

It was ALMOST like the Sox felt like the fans had gotten complacent, expecting a repeat, and by golly they wanted to wake us up.....let us start to swallow the bitter pill of defeat and then wake us all up.  My knees are still shaking!

So, here's hoping that they dominate in TB and quit with the roller coaster rides!  Us old folks have a hard time handling it.

As an aside....my deepest and most sincere apologies to any of the squirrels who might have bedded down for the night on top of my RV.  I had reminded DH of the time and warned him that he couldn't jump up and down, scream, yell and otherwise make obscene amounts of noise.  Instead, he beat the heck out of the ceiling of the RV, which, being metal must have sounded like gunshots to the poor squirrels that might have been snoozing up there.
