Jobs!
Posted to: News & Entertainment
I was just wondering what all of you do for a living. As for me, I am a full-time student (aha senior in high school) and have two jobs. I work as a medical assistant and a Pediatrics office, and a receptionist/patient screening technician at an Opthamology office. I was destined to work in the...

dandruff and biting paws
Posted to: Health & Grooming
I noticed yesterday after Jake was groomed, he had some dandruff on his fur. I just started him on Timberwolf Ocean Blue dry food a few days ago. He only gets 1/4 cup of this food in the evening as a snack. Could it be this new food? He used to eat Solid Gold Holistique Blendz dry. Could it be the new...

Dog Training DVD's

Are there any definitive, must own, dog training DVD's out there? I'd like to find a good dog training DVD that covers a complete training methodology of basic obedience, as well as information on dealing with behavioral issues, living with and caring for your dog. I've got a couple titles...

Trimeprazine/Prednisone
Posted to: Health & Grooming
Does anyone have any info about Trimeprazine (an anthistamine) and Prednisone. It's both medications in one. The pills are 2 mg. I am supposed to give Jake 2 tables 2xday for 4 days, then 2 tablets 1xday for 4 days then 1 tablet a day until gone. Is this medication safe? I am so afraid of the steriods...

Italian Greyhound with bum leg
Posted to: Health & Grooming
My cousin adopted an italian greyhound from an animal shelter. He was abused by his previous owner and has a crooked tail and a bum leg. His leg appeared to have been broken and self healed. It doesn't look really abnormal, but you can tell there was something wrong with it. He sometimes walks on...

Proof that raw is good
Posted to: Nutrition & Exercise
I just went thru an epidemic of kennel cough with my 3 dogs and here is what happened. I have 2 rescues (ages 5 and 7) and 8 month puppy. The 5 yo raw fed (1 1/2 years) rescue who was severely neglected/emaciated when I got him 2 years ago was only mildly sick 1 1/2 days with KC. He had no current...

Puppy only has "poop" accidents?
Posted to: Training & Behavior
Hi, I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I skimmed over some recent entries where members have posted informative articles on housetraining but none that addressed my specific concern. My 6 month old Shih Tzu is doing well with training; he usually lets us know when he has to go (he does a...

What can I do for Sissy's sore throat?
Posted to: News & Entertainment
I'm just sick! One of my rescue dogs is extremely timid; it took several months before she stopped squealing and peeing when my husband bent down to pet her. Since she's an outside dog and we have a very busy road nearby, we got an invisible fence for her..she has about seven acres to roam around...

An alternative for rawhide chews?
Posted to: News & Entertainment
My pit mix Buster is 4 and has always loved to chew big rawhide bones. I had to stop giving them to him because I realized it was these bones causing him to have intense itching and hot spots on his underbelly. ( The vet said the skin problems were due to a thyroid condition, and he has been on thyroid...

Over exuberant treat taking (i.e. watch those fingers!!)
Posted to: Training & Behavior
When Dasher and I are doing agility I use treats to reward behaviors (I also use the ball, but my question is treat related). I would love any advise to teach him not to take part of my fingers along with the treats. He knows (or at least seems to know) "easy" b/c at home he will be gentle...
