Gentle Leader?
Posted to:
Nutrition & Exercise
I have a 7 month old beagle who is a generally well behaved puppy. He is still having problems with jumping up on people (sometimes) and pulling when on a leash. He pulls horribly when we get out of the car when I am taking him to daycare. I also took him in a local pet store yesterday and he was pulling...

hose for bathing
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
Has anyone used the hose sold on the dog.com site or one like it that attaches to your sink or outside faucet? I have a small dog and don't want it to be too strong. Also, does it have an on and off or does the water run continually? Thanks. Maddysmom

Herding!!!
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
Well its happened. Tootsie, my Pembroke Welsh Corgi, who is a little over 2 1/2, has really come into her herding behavior. I would let the dogs out to do their thing and Tootsie will lay flat on the ground with her butt moving and as soon as Sammy (min. pin.) starts to come towards the door, she takes...

Bugsy goes goose hunting - help! (long)
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
I took Bugsy to the lake today (650 acre lake with some surrounding land - its a mile from our house) and had a blast, but am worried about how to deal with a dog with such a strong prey drive. First I took him out to some fields and had him fetching on a drag line. Despite loving fetch and loving treats...

New cat
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
I am adopting this cat on Saturday. She's 1.5 years old. Her name is Lily. This isn't a great picture, but it's what the owner sent me. I hope someone adopts the other cat she has. I couldn't because I already have 2 puppies and another cat.

Dog Showing
Posted to:
News & Entertainment
Does anybody here show their dogs? I've always had a thing for conformation and I love chatting with show people and learning the tricks of the trade [ ] I currently don't own a show dog but I've been under a mentor for a few years now. Dog show people speak (bark) up!

Kid Question

I need quick help with a sort of etiquette thing, I guess. I signed my 3 year old niece up for this craft class starting today at 10 am, and this morning she comes to me not feeling good. She's got a little cough, a stuffy nose, and she LOOKS sick. That said, it doesn't seem to be affecting her...

What breed would you like to have?
Posted to:
Choosing A Dog
If you had unlimited time, money, and space - what breed or breeds would you like to share your life with? My son Joey has announced he wants a toy poodle. It would be the perfect dog for him. Wah, no more room at the inn. My hubby wants an Irish Wolfhound. Ditto no room. But it suits him so much...

Lupomorphizing
Posted to:
Training & Behavior
Lupomorphizing - I didn't make the word up. Admittedly, I borrowed it from Ian Dunbar. But, I thought it might make for some lively discussion. We are often told not to anthropomorphize our dogs, since they are not human. Then, why should we lupomorphize our dogs? Many would say that our dogs are...
