Wow, you guys are smart dog people.
But, if the the what is a byb thread stats are true, all of those dogs probably came from the same source, one just had an extra step to finding a home, and not a nice step at that. And some never even found their home.
The point of the last statement was that you could buy a dog for an insane amount of$$$, that was bred by a breeder, that you buy directly from the breeder. You don't know what it will look like or what it will gow up to be like. And in doing so, you will encourage this same breeder to continue breeding, tossing several puppies from a litter into the pound when they can't find enough homes
OR
You could buy a dog, for a reasonable amount of money, that was bred by a breeder. If it is a puppy, you will not know its temperment. if it is an older puppy/dog, then you will have some good clues into temperment and looks. And you will not have encouraged anyone to add to the overpopulation of dogs. And you would have made a new place in a shelter for a homeless dog.
Looks like you would come out way ahead by buying from a shelter. (if you are looking for a mixed breed for a family pet. I understand the dynamics change if you want a full-bred to a show or work dog, and in which case you are not looking at BYB anyway.)
