Great Dane post spay advice
I have a 1 year 7ms old Great Dane who I rescued from a back yard breeder. As you might know you can't spay this breed unroll they around 14 months. Due to poor nutrition in the beginning of her life she had a lot of GI problems and I was working with holistic vet to strengthen her immune system...

Enlarged heart in senior
Alphie, my girly GR, has been panting and breathing fast for about 6 mths now. Vets always said it was due to her joint pain. Yesterday I told the vet to x-ray her chest. Her chest cavity is clear, kidney looks like it has an ok shape, but the heart is slightly big and rounded, though she said it's...

Anaplasmosis/Rocky Mtn Spotted Fever/ITP
Hi everyone, I've never posted here before, but my dog is very ill and I was wondering if anyone had any similar experience. I have a 12 year old spayed collie (Sable) who up until a few days ago seemed to be very healthy. She has physical exams done twice a year and senior blood profile yearly....

Willy's Knee Issue
Willy was at the vet today. He broke a tooth, snapped off the bottom part of it, and had a fracture of the rest, running up to and under the gumline. He had a dental (his other teeth are fine) and that tooth had to come out. Because he was already under anesthesia, I took this opportunity to have x rays...

Bad Hair, Won't grow back after cut too short
Any help for some hair that isn't growing back in well after a groomer cut it too short? Hubby took our dog to his regular groomer a few months back and when he brought Andy home his forehead was cut down short for about an inch behind his eyes then the hair was taller. This had never happened...

Where should we do the x-rays in this situation?
I have had Willy 2 years this past June. He will turn age 9 in 2 weeks. He has always done a "lazy" sit, can't do a formal one, and if he is in a sit, he can't lie down, has to stand, 'bow' and drop the rear to get there. Recently, he has added a new concern: when he is pooping...

Is Grooming More than Aesthetics?
I''ve always washed my own pets, and I've almost always had short hair dogs because of allergies. When I was younger, my family had poodles. They had hair so there were no allergy issues there. They got the poodles groomed, but I've never had poodles myself as an adult. With shorthairs...

Lump-please help!!
So here's what's going on. I have a beautiful 1 year old husky/lab mix that has a lump on her right shoulder. It is about the size of a baseball, squishy and not causing her any pain (even when I press on it). I first noticed it just over a month and a half ago and immediately took her to the...

pet safety at home
If you're eating chocolate, you definitely don't want to leave any out where a dog can get to it. You should be very mindful of food that is left out - it needs to be out of reach or, even better, put away when you're not eating. *removed by Moderator*

Any reason to send in OFA and CERF paperwork?
I had Luke checked out at the cavalier health clinic this weekend. I had his heart and eyes checked out, so I have stuff to send to OFA and CERF. I'm wondering if there is any reason why I should actually send it in. He's neutered, so there's no benefit for breeding. His sire and dam have...

My dog Lucy was diagnosed with IMHA/IMT on July 23rd. She has been up and down with this, but after her second blood transfusion last Monday (and adding cyclosporine in addition to danazol and preds), her blood work was the best it has ever been yesterday (PCV had barely changed from following the transfusion...

Heart Murmur
Our dog is about 11 years old (we rescused her from an animal shelter when she was about 3 years old). About 2 years ago, I was told she has a heart murmur (stage between 3 and 4). We go to her heart doctor twice a year. She has not needed medication until today. We just came back from seeing her heart...

Bugsy's toe
Thought I'd make a post here instead of writing in the Mindless Chat thread - First off his gait is awful, labored, head swinging back and forth, shoulder dropping. I tried resting him and rimadyl neither made any difference. He actually doesn't seem to be in pain just something that isn't...

Honey Had A Dental
Honey had a dental Monday. Because of her age--pyshing 11 if not there already--I am reluctant to have her put under unless 110% necessary. Also, she has horrible hallucinations when coming around after being put under, much worse than most dogs. I have spent hours on the floor there holding her down...

Low albumin
Lucy, my 2 year old frenchie, has low albumin and my vet wants to do an ultrasound to try to rule out further issues. Her first test was 23, 2nd was 25 and 3rd was 23 again after switching her to a low fat diet. She has NO other symptoms, her kidney and liver are fine (according to blood test) and there...
