    Lump-please help!!

So here's what's going on. I have a beautiful 1 year old husky/lab mix that has a lump on her right shoulder. It is about the size of a baseball, squishy and not causing her any pain (even when I press on it). I first noticed it just over a month and a half ago and immediately took her to the vet. The vet took a sample of the contents and said there were a lot of white blood cells, so it was probably an abscess. She tried to drain it unsuccessfully, but sent us home with antibiotics. The lump went down and seemed to go away, but about 2 weeks ago I noticed it coming back, and now it is completely back and seems bigger than before. I really have no idea what this could be and I am freaking out about it. I want to take her back to the vet, but money is a huge issue for me right now. Could I just call and ask for a bother round of antibiotics? She is my baby and I don't want anything to ever happen to her :(

The problem is, since time has elapsed since the end of the last antibiotic, now it's probably resistant to that particular antibiotic and will likely need a stronger one this time.  In other words, you should have called the vet just as soon as you noticed it was back, altho even then it may have been too late for that particular antibiotic. Once an infection has "survived" an antibiotic only to flare up again, it's usually then resistant -- so "more" probably just plain won't work.

There are also certain things that can become something worse if they aren't taken care of (and I would particularly not mess with something so close to bone/joint.).  Literally an infection can morph into something worse.

I know it's not good news for youj, but unfortunately this is where pet ownership/guardianship becomes difficult.  She **must** be seen by a vet and right away.  Such a thing can rupture inwards and become a systemic infection (that could be way worse, and FAR more expensive than you could imagine).

If there is no person you can borrow money from, call your vet and see what your options are.  At the very least, ask if they will help you by dealing with Care Credit (the interest is way high, but it's made for situations like this where you just can't afford it any other way).

I wish I could give you the easy "wait and see" answer, but I wouldn't be doing you any favor.

Try to simply talk to your vet -- they might even let you work off some of the indebtedness (by coming in to clean cages, housekeeping, etc.).  It all depends on the vet but they usually try to help where they can.

Don't let this go.  There are *no* options where letting this go is 'ok'.  It likely will only worsen from here.  I've been where you are and I don't say any of this lightly -- crawling to someone else and asking to borrow money can be a humiliating experience and you may already have had to do something like this.  Someone else may know of an organization that can help you other than Care Credit.
